Effect of Rolling Process on Formability and Mechanical Properties of AA 1050/Mg AZ31B Bilayer Sheet

S. M. Atifeh et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental investigation on the impact of the rolling process on the mechanical characteristics and formability of a bilayer sheet manufactured by explosive welding. Results show that the rolling process increases the strength and hardness of the bilayer sheet, while reducing its elongation and formability.

Experimental and numerical study of microstructure, mechanical characteristics, and forming limit curve for Al 1050/ Mg-AZ31B two-layer sheets manufactured via roll bonding technique

A. Rouzbeh et al.

Summary: In this article, Al 1050/ Mg-AZ31B two-layer sheets were fabricated using the roll bonding technique. The study experimentally and numerically analyzed the forming limit diagrams and mechanical characteristics. The cohesive zone model (CZM) was applied to improve the accuracy of finite element simulations, while determining the fracture toughness and interface behavior of the bilayer sheets experimentally. The results showed that the cohesive zone model accurately predicted the mechanical characteristics and forming limit diagram, with minimal discrepancies between the experimental and numerical results.

Corrugated interface structure and formation mechanism of Al/Mg/Al laminate rolled by hard plate

Peng -da Huo et al.

Summary: A hard plate rolling method was proposed to develop Al/Mg/Al composite plates. The method changes the stress state and creates a corrugated interface profile, resulting in a stronger interfacial bonding strength of 64 MPa. The tensile strength of the hard-rolled composite plates is also significantly higher, reaching 210 MPa.

Effects of strain path on the microstructure, tensile properties, and formability of Al/Mg roll-bonded sheets

A. Rouzbeh et al.

Summary: In this research, the effect of strain path on the microstructure, mechanical properties and forming limit diagram of roll-bonded Al/Mg two-layer sheet was experimentally investigated. The results showed that cross rolling produced a more uniform microstructure and no delamination occurred in the fabrication of bilayer sheets with two passes. Cross-rolled samples exhibited the best mechanical properties in terms of ultimate tensile strength and elongation. Additionally, cross rolling significantly reduced normal anisotropy. The forming limit diagram of cross-rolled samples exhibited an increase in FLD0 by 15.6%, 13.8%, and 5.7% compared to single-pass, two-pass direct rolling, and two-pass reverse rolling samples, respectively.

Formability and interface structure of Al/Mg/Al composite sheet rolled by hard-plate rolling (HPR)

Peng Da Huo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new method of hard plate rolling clad plate, which can improve the bonding ability and quality performance of heterogeneous plates while enhancing shape quality and forming ability. Experimental results show that adding a hard plate can lead to the formation of two distinct intermetallic compound layers at the metal interfaces, with significantly increased thickness of the diffusion layer.

Effect of annealing on formability and mechanical properties of AA1050/Mg-AZ31B bilayer sheets fabricated by explosive welding method

Seyed Mehdi Atifeh et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the effect of annealing on the formability and mechanical properties of AA1050/Mg-AZ31B bilayer sheets fabricated by explosive welding. The increase in annealing temperature led to significant growth of the interface layer, which decreased the strength of the bilayer sheet.

Evolution of plastic deformation behavior upon strain-path changes in an A6022-T4 Al alloy sheet

Takayuki Hama et al.

Summary: The study investigated the plastic deformation behavior of an A6022-T4 aluminum alloy sheet under various strain-path changes through experiments and numerical simulations. The results showed that plastic deformation temporarily deviates from the associated flow rule after abrupt-path changes but can be represented by the rule again with an increase in plastic work. Additionally, it was found that both the plastic strain rate direction θ and stress ratio qi tend to converge to certain values regardless of the strain path.

Influence of uniaxial and biaxial pre-straining on the low cycle fatigue performance of DP590 steel

Puja Ghosal et al.

Summary: The study investigates the low cycle fatigue behavior of dual-phase steel (DP590) under different pre-straining paths. It was found that all specimens exhibited continuous cyclic softening, with the equi-biaxial pre-strain specimen showing a higher rate of cyclic softening. The rotation of one maximum shear stress plane during fatigue cycling after equi-biaxial pre-straining introduces non-proportional loading, leading to a significant reduction in fatigue life. The larger lattice rotation and in-grain misorientation due to the non-proportional loading is particularly notable for the equi-biaxial pre-strain specimen.

Controlling factors of forming limit curve: A review

Surajit Kumar Paul

Summary: This paper comprehensively discussed the effect of different influencing factors on the forming limit curve (FLC) in sheet metal forming, including limiting strain determination method, punch geometry, microstructure, pre-straining path, strain rate, and temperature. Different tensile properties and their correlations with FLC were also investigated, showing that introducing microstructural features can be favorable for higher FLC.
