Summary: This study used the PLUS and InVEST models as well as Geoda software to simulate and predict the spatial development pattern of land use and changes in carbon stocks in the GBA in 2030. The results show that carbon storage decreased year by year from 1990 to 2020. In 2030, except for the EPS scenario, the future carbon storage prediction values are lower than those in 2020, especially under the EDS scenario. The spatial distribution of carbon storage in the GBA exhibits significant heterogeneity, with high-value areas in the east and west wings as well as southwest, and low-value areas in the middle and east. The research results can provide a scientific basis for the territorial space resource planning of the GBA under the goal of dual carbon.

Summary: Earth system models have been widely used to simulate global terrestrial carbon fluxes, including gross primary production (GPP) and net primary production (NPP). This study evaluated the model performance of 22 ESMs participating in the CMIP5 and CMIP6 projects, finding that the multi-model ensembles (MME) outperformed individual models in simulating GPP and NPP. Despite improvements in CMIP6 compared to CMIP5, there is still much work needed to enhance the performance of individual ESMs and the overall CMIP. Future work should focus on more comprehensive model mechanisms and higher resolution coupling of land surface and atmospheric/oceanic schemes.

Summary: The study of landscape pattern of land use is of great practical significance for land use planning and the construction of ecological cities. In this study, the CAMarkov model was used to simulate and predict the land use landscape pattern of Mianzhu City, and the spatiotemporal changes and evolution characteristics from 2008 to 2026 were analyzed. The findings show that construction and water areas have significantly increased over time, while forest and farmland still account for a large proportion of the total area. The predicted indexes indicate a significant decrease in fragmentation and an increase in agglomeration, diversity, and uniformity of the landscape pattern.

Summary: Land-use and cover change (LUCC) is a significant factor in the terrestrial carbon cycle, but the changes in vegetation biomass and soil carbon sequestration caused by land-use conversion have large uncertainties. In this study, we determined the characteristics of LUCC in China by analyzing transition matrices and transfer trajectories. By integrating models, we explored the carbon budget from land-use conversion and found that LUCC has a significant effect on increasing the terrestrial carbon pool in China. Our findings have implications for improving the estimation accuracy of carbon pools and understanding the impact of human activities on the regional carbon balance in China's terrestrial ecosystem.

Summary: The study found that from 2000 to 2020, artificial surfaces grew significantly, while cultivated land significantly decreased, leading to an overall decrease in carbon storage with local aggregation and sporadic distribution. By 2030, the areas of artificial surfaces, water bodies, and shrubland will continue to increase, while cultivated land and grassland will continue to decrease. The balanced development scenario can effectively achieve ecological protection and economic development objectives, while carbon storage is expected to continue declining with the ecological protection scenario having the highest carbon storage.
