Large-scale analysis of putative Euphorbiaceae R2R3-MYB transcription factors identifies a MYB involved in seed oil biosynthesis

Yunpeng Cao et al.

Summary: This study provides the first insight into the evolution and expression of R2R3-MYBs in Euphorbiaceae species. The expansion of the R2R3-MYB family is primarily driven by whole-genome duplication and segmental duplication. VfMYB36, specifically expressed in fruits, may play a role in oil biosynthesis.

The core triacylglycerol toolbox in woody oil plants reveals targets for oil production bioengineering

Yunpeng Cao et al.

Summary: Woody oil plants produce seeds with high levels of valuable triacylglycerols (TAGs). We identified 280 genes involved in TAGs biosynthesis and explored their expression profiles. We also discovered functional redundancy and the lack of certain pathways in specific species. The identification of key genes will contribute to the development of woody oil plant varieties with enhanced properties.

Two vacuolar invertase inhibitors PpINHa and PpINH3 display opposite effects on fruit sugar accumulation in peach

Md Dulal Ali Mollah et al.

Summary: This study identified two vacuolar invertase inhibitor genes, PpINHa and PpINH3, involved in sugar accumulation in peach fruits. Overexpression of PpINH3 increased sugar content, while overexpression of PpINHa had the opposite effect. Surprisingly, both PpINH3 and PpINHa had no physical interaction with vacuolar invertase (VIN), and the expression of PpVIN genes in ripe fruits was negligible. The results suggest that the regulatory role of PpINHa and PpINH3 in sugar accumulation is likely due to their impact on genes related to fruit sugar metabolism and transport.

The red flower wintersweet genome provides insights into the evolution of magnoliids and the molecular mechanism for tepal color development

Zhiguo Shen et al.

Summary: This study sequenced and assembled the whole genome of a new type of wintersweet, revealing the molecular mechanisms underlying flower color development among different wintersweet groups. Magnoliids are likely sister to the eudicots. Key genes and transcription factors regulating tepal color development were identified, laying the foundation for molecular breeding of wintersweet.

Comprehensive analysis of AHL gene family and their expression under drought stress and ABA treatment in Populus trichocarpa

Hanzeng Wang et al.

Summary: The AHL family of transcription factors plays a crucial role in plant growth, development, and stress responses. Analysis of PtrAHL genes in poplar revealed tissue-specific expression patterns and potential interactions with HDAC in root development. The induced expression of PtrAHL genes under drought stress and ABA treatment provides insights for functional analysis and breeding strategies to enhance drought tolerance in poplar.

Two loss-of-function alleles of the glutathione S-transferase (GST) gene cause anthocyanin deficiency in flower and fruit skin of peach (Prunus persica)

Zhenhua Lu et al.

Summary: The study identified a genetic locus responsible for white flower color in peach, which shows pleiotropic effects with non-white-flowered types. The locus was mapped on chromosome 3 using bulked segregant analysis and further fine-mapped using F-2 individuals and BC1S1 population. A GST gene, Pp3G013600, was found to be associated with white flower color due to loss-of-function alleles, which was validated in 128 peach accessions. Silencing of Pp3G013600 confirmed its role in reducing anthocyanin accumulation in peach fruit, providing valuable information for peach breeding programs.
