This study investigates the mechanism of cation release from carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogels synthesized through Schiff base reaction. By analyzing the release kinetics of potassium, calcium, and iron cations at different pH values, it is demonstrated that this hydrogel has the property of slow cation release.
In an in-depth study of the mechanism of cation release from carboxymethyl cellulose hydrogels synthesized through Schiff base reaction, we analyze the differences in the release kinetics of potassium, calcium, and iron cations with Peleg model at pH values of pH 3.5 and pH 8.5 using ICP-OES (inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy) technique. A hydrogel synthesized using dialdehyde carboxymethyl cellulose (DACMC) and gelatin by Schiff base reaction is reported. By analyzing the mesh structure of this hydrogel under different pH conditions and the release kinetics of different cations, it is demonstrated that this hydrogel has the property of the slow release of K+, Ca2+ and Fe3+ cations.+image
