Prognostic significance of tumor budding thresholds in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma

Marco Mascitti et al.

Summary: Tumor budding is found to be a reliable prognostic factor in oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma (OTSCC), but a standardized scoring system is lacking. This study aims to evaluate the prognostic role of tumor budding in 211 OTSCC patients. The results confirm the predictive value of tumor budding in disease-specific survival.

Molecular mechanisms of tumour budding and its association with microenvironment in colorectal cancer

Phimmada Hatthakarnkul et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide. Poor survival and disease metastasis are associated with the development of tumor metastasis in CRC patients, making it important to study potential biomarkers for predicting outcomes. Tumor budding is an independent prognostic marker for poor survival and disease metastasis, and it has been suggested to be included in routine clinicopathological factors for risk assessment. However, there is currently no clear evidence regarding the underlying molecular mechanism driving this phenotype, or the relationship between tumor budding and the tumor microenvironment.

Tumor Budding is a reliable predictor for death and metastasis in invasive ductal breast cancer and correlates with other prognostic clinicopathological parameters

Oguzhan Okcu et al.

Summary: The study found that high tumor budding in breast invasive ductal carcinoma cases is associated with low survival time, metastasis, axillary lymph node metastasis, angiolymphatic invasion, advanced stage, high proliferation index, progesterone receptor loss, and advanced age. Tumor budding is identified as an independent risk factor in breast carcinomas.

Tumor Microenvironmental Prognostic Risk in Primary Operable Small Intestinal Adenocarcinoma

Sun-Young Jun et al.

Summary: This study evaluated TME prognostic risk in small intestinal adenocarcinomas and found that the TME risk index can better predict patient prognosis, providing more accurate stratification than individual pTB and sTIL counts. Tumors with higher TME prognostic risk were associated with worse clinicopathological features and genetic mutations. The TME risk index was consistently predictive of patient survival across different tumor locations, stages, and DNA mismatch repair gene statuses.

Temporal trends in incidence and mortality rates of laryngeal cancer at the global, regional and national levels, 1990-2017

Jing-Yuan Wang et al.

Summary: The numbers of incident cases and deaths due to laryngeal cancer globally increased from 1990 to 2017, but the overall age-standardised incidence rate and age-standardised mortality rate decreased per year. The decreasing trend was observed worldwide, but some developing countries showed unfavorable trends in the incidence of laryngeal cancer.

Stage Migration and Survival Trends in Laryngeal Cancer

Michael M. Li et al.

Summary: Despite advancements in the treatment of laryngeal cancer, survival rates in the United States have not shown improvement over time. This lack of improvement may be attributed to the increasing proportion of stage 4 disease, primarily driven by rising nodal disease. Efforts should focus on diagnosing and treating laryngeal cancer at earlier stages to prevent further stage migration and achieve survival improvement in line with scientific and technological advances.
