Summary: Maternal depression during different periods, especially in mid-childhood, is associated with increased risk of depressive symptoms in offspring during emerging adulthood, with variations by sex. Accumulation model is more appropriate for males, while exposure to maternal depression in mid-childhood has the largest effect on depressive symptoms in females compared to other time-periods.
