Influence of sample size and analytic approach on stability and interpretation of brain-behavior correlations in task-relatedfMRIdata

Cheryl L. Grady et al.

Summary: The study highlights the problem of limited statistical power in fMRI research due to small sample sizes. Experiment results indicate that larger sample sizes lead to decreased brain-behavior correlations and increased similarity across spatial maps. Furthermore, the multivariate approach shows advantages in the stability of brain-behavior correlations compared to univariate methods.

Evaluation of Risk Behavior in Gambling Addicted and Opioid Addicted Individuals

Edward J. Gorzelanczyk et al.

Summary: Evidence suggests that both opioid addicted and gambling addicted individuals exhibit higher levels of risky behavior compared to healthy individuals. The administration of substitution drugs can reduce cravings for opioids and risky decisions in opioid addicts. Individuals addicted to gambling tend to make riskier decisions in the Iowa Gambling Task, but make less risky decisions compared to opioid addicts before methadone administration.

Translating Interventional Neuroscience to Suicide: It's About Time

Jennifer Barredo et al.

Summary: Despite advancements in psychiatric and psychological treatments, suicide rates continue to rise. One reason for this could be the lack of integration between neurocircuitry models and contemporary suicide theories. Another challenge is the variable nature of suicide risk over time, which requires closer attention in intervention studies. Future research should focus on real-time tracking and biologically based interventions to develop more effective strategies for suicide reduction.

Disentangling Within- and Between-Person Effects During Response Inhibition in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Pernille Hagland et al.

Summary: The study found a positive between-person effect of obsessive-compulsive, anxiety, and depressive symptom severity on task performance, indicating that patients with higher symptom scores on average respond slower. However, there were no significant between- or within-person relations between symptom severity and task-related activation or fronto-limbic connectivity. This suggests a general association between slower processing speed and symptom severity in OCD.
