Caspase-1-mediated extracellular vesicles derived from pyroptotic alveolar macrophages promote inflammation in acute lung injury

Xichun Qin et al.

Summary: The occurrence and development of acute lung injury (ALI) involve various pathological factors and complex mechanisms. This study reveals that macrophages release pyroptotic bodies (PyrBDs) in the early phase of ALI, which promotes activation of epithelial cells, induces vascular leakage, and recruits neutrophils. PyrBDs formation and release are dependent on caspase-1.

PEDF is an antifibrosis factor that inhibits the activation of fibroblasts in a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis rat model

Xichun Qin et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that PEDF can act as an anti-fibrotic factor, inhibiting fibroblast activation by upregulating PPAR-gamma activity and reducing bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats.

The Crucial Role of PPARγ-Egr-1-Pro-Inflammatory Mediators Axis in IgG Immune Complex-Induced Acute Lung Injury

Chunguang Yan et al.

Summary: The ligand-activated transcription factor PPAR gamma plays important roles in various biological processes. In IgG immune complex-induced acute lung inflammation, PPAR gamma expression is reduced and its activation can alleviate inflammation by suppressing Egr-1 and pro-inflammatory mediators. Therefore, targeting the PPAR gamma-Egr-1-pro-inflammatory mediators axis may be a potential strategy for blocking acute lung injury.
