Correlation between heavy metal concentration and oxidative potential of street dust

Mohammad Malakootian et al.

Summary: The study focused on investigating the oxidative potential (OP), spatial distribution, and correlations with heavy metals (HMs) in street dust in Kerman city, Iran. Results showed higher OP values in dust samples from the center and west of the city, with a strong correlation between the concentrations of As and Cr and OP values.

The contribution of commercial fireworks to both local and personal air quality in Auckland, New Zealand

Joel D. Rindelaub et al.

Summary: Firework displays can contribute to poor local air quality by producing large amounts of particulate matter (PM), increasing PM10 concentrations. Studies show that fireworks contain large amounts of chlorine, which may be indicative of perchlorate oxidizers. Additionally, lead may be an important component in the PM generated from certain colored sparklers during Guy Fawkes celebrations.

Comparison of oxidative potential of PM1 and PM2.5 urban aerosol and bioaccessibility of associated elements in three simulated lung fluids

H. Cigankova et al.

Summary: Most elements showed higher bioaccessibility in the submicron fraction compared to the fine size fraction, which also varied between the three simulated lung fluids (SLFs). The bioaccessibility of elements is influenced by their chemical compound and the composition of the solution. The oxidative potential (OP) of urban particulate matter (PM) was found to be significantly affected by the composition of the simulated lung fluids. The correlation between certain elements and DTT activity suggest their involvement in the oxidative activity of PM.
