Effect of composition on the Raman response of the Cu2(Fe x Zn1-x)SnS4 and Cu2(Mn x Zn1-x)SnS4 solid solutions

Nicole Suss et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of composition on the Raman-active vibrational response of the Cu-2(FexZn1-x)SnS4 and Cu-2(MnZn1-x)SnS4 solid solution series at ambient conditions. The phase boundaries of the respective kesterite-type and stannite-type structures in these compounds were identified. Raman spectroscopy has been proven to be an efficient method for monitoring subtle structural transitions in these systems.

First-principles investigation of CZTS Raman spectra

S. P. Ramkumar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the atomic-scale disorder of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) material using Raman spectroscopy and finds that internal parameters characterizing the position of S atoms strongly influence the intensities of the Raman spectra. The agreement between experimental results and theoretical predictions is achieved by adopting a specific computed geometry. Additionally, the disorder only affects the shape of the Raman peaks, which can be used to assess the level of order in the sample.

Cu2ZnSbS4: A Thioantimonate(V) with Remarkably Strong Covalent Sb-S Bonding

Eva M. Heppke et al.

Summary: A new member, Cu2ZnSbS4, within the A(2)IB(II)C(IV)X(4) compound family was successfully synthesized using ball milling and postannealing in H2S-atmosphere, and showed isostructural similarity with Cu3SbS4. Both compounds exhibit monovalent diamagnetic copper and substantial covalent bonding, as confirmed by Mossbauer spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations.

Optical phonons in pentanary compound (AgxCu1-x)2ZnSnS4 semiconductor: A raman study

Jitendra Kumar et al.

Summary: The study investigated phonon modes in the pentanary compound semiconductor ACZTS using Raman Spectroscopy, finding changes in Raman shifts during Ag-alloying indicating potential two-mode behavior in the compounds. The ratios derived from Raman spectra also showed decreased disorder in CZTS with increased Ag-alloying, supported by changes in carrier density.

High-Pressure Behavior and Disorder for Ag2ZnSnS4 and Ag2CdSnS4

Tim Kuellmey et al.

Summary: First-principles calculations were used to simulate Ag2ZnSnS4 and Ag2CdSnS4, predicting phase transitions for both materials. Ag2ZnSnS4 transitions from kesterite-type to GeSb-type at 8.2GPa, while Ag2CdSnS4 transitions to GeSb-type at 4.7GPa, both exhibiting metallic characteristics.

High-pressure behavior of disodered kesterite-type Cu2ZnSnS4

Ilias Efthimiopoulos et al.

Summary: The researchers investigated the high-pressure structural and vibrational behavior of the disordered kesterite-type Cu2ZnSnS4 compound at ambient temperature. They found a clear structural transition to a GeSb-type phase close to 15 GPa, along with a change in compressibility rate at about 8 GPa. Upon decompression, a disordered zinc blende/sphalerite structure is recovered.

Mere Anarchy is Loosed: Structural Disorder in Cu2Zn1-xCdxSnS4

Amit Bhattacharya et al.

Summary: The complex structural characteristics of Cu2Zn1-xCdxSnS4, including the presence of both kesterite and stannite structures in the intermediate region, were revealed through a combination of powder X-ray diffraction and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. The substitution of Cd in Cu2ZnSnS4 proceeds exclusively through disorder of Zn and Cd atoms, as indicated by the experimental and DFT-computed NMR spectra of Cu-63 and Zn-67.

Pressure effects on vibrational properties and structure of nanocrystalline Cu2ZnSnS4

S. P. Kandare et al.

Summary: Raman spectroscopic and synchrotron powder diffraction measurements were used to study the pressure-induced phase transitions in nano-crystalline Cu2ZnSnS4, revealing a different sequence of transitions compared to bulk Cu2ZnSnS4. The volume data for the ordered kesterite phase was obtained, and the mechanical instability of the disordered kesterite phase leading to a second structural transition was identified.
