Review of the algorithms used in exhaled breath analysis for the detection of diabetes

Anna Paleczek et al.

Summary: Currently, intensive research is being conducted on the development of truly noninvasive medical diagnostic systems, including respiratory analysers based on the detection of biomarkers for various diseases like diabetes. Selective detection of diabetes biomarkers in exhaled breath is crucial, with algorithms trained to detect diabetes achieving over 90% accuracy in most cases.Various measurement systems, feature extraction methods, and algorithms such as support vector machines are being used to detect diabetes in patient samples and simulated artificial breath samples.

Investigation of colorimetric biosensor array based on programable surface chemistry of M13 bacteriophage towards artificial nose for volatile organic compound detection: From basic properties of the biosensor to practical application

Jong-Min Lee et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between surface chemistry of genetically engineered bacteriophages and the properties of bacteriophage-based optoelectronic noses, demonstrating controllable reactivity through genetic engineering. Phages advantageous in distinguishing VOCs were selected through HCA, with the differences verified through optimized geometry calculated by DFT. The study confirmed the importance of tryptophan-based and histidine-based genetically engineered phage films in distinguishing VOCs used to evaluate peach freshness, and applied this to design a field-applied phage-based optoelectronic nose for measuring fruit freshness.

Exhaled Breath Analysis for Diabetes Diagnosis and Monitoring: Relevance, Challenges and Possibilities

Kaushiki Dixit et al.

Summary: Researching the application of exhaled breath analysis in diabetes monitoring is crucial yet challenging. A comprehensive evaluation of current technologies and sensing methods can help understand the shortcomings of blood glucose monitoring and further drive the development of non-invasive diabetes monitoring devices. It is important to focus on studying breath biomarker clusters and incorporating novel sensing materials and transduction mechanisms to realize breath analysis as an effective healthcare approach.

Programmable self-assembly of M13 bacteriophage for micro-color pattern with a tunable colorization

Thanh Mien Nguyen et al.

Summary: Over the past decade, the M13 bacteriophage has been widely used in various applications such as sensors, bio-templating, and solar cells. Recent developments in phage-based colorimetric sensor technologies have focused on improving sensing characteristics, while limited studies have been conducted on precisely controllable micro-patterning techniques. This paper presents a new color patterning technique through self-assembly of the M13 bacteriophages, which allows for color tunability based on the phage nano-bundles reactivity.
