Glutathione Trisulfide Prevents Lipopolysaccharide-induced Inflammatory Gene Expression in Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells

Hiroshi Tawarayama et al.

Summary: GSSSG attenuates LPS-induced inflammatory gene expression through hyperactivation of ERK signaling and inhibition of NF-κB p65 subunit activation. The inhibitory effect of GSSSG on IL-6 and CCL2 upregulation under LPS stimulation is mediated by ERK1/2 activation.

Regulations of Retinal Inflammation: Focusing on Muller Glia

Yingying Chen et al.

Summary: Muller glia play critical roles in regulating retinal inflammation through metabolic regulation and miRNA-mediated mechanisms. Novel therapies targeting Muller glia are being explored for the treatment of inflammatory retinal diseases.

TAK1-TABs Complex: A Central Signalosome in Inflammatory Responses

Yan-Ran Xu et al.

Summary: TAK1, a member of the MAPKKK family, functions by assembling with TAB1, TAB2, and TAB3 and can be activated by various stimuli. Post-translational modifications play important roles in controlling the activity, stability, and assembly of the TAK1-TABs complex.

Mouse primary microglia respond differently to LPS and poly(I:C) in vitro

Yingbo He et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates distinct activation patterns in microglia induced by LPS and poly(I:C), affecting morphology, proliferation, chemotaxis, and phagocytosis differently. Genome-wide analysis supports these functional differences, potentially associated with NF-kappa b and type I interferon pathways. LPS- and poly(I:C)-activated microglia also mediate neurotoxicity in a co-culture system, highlighting potential therapeutic targets.

Glial cells modulate retinal cell survival in rotenone-induced neural degeneration

Hiroshi Tawarayama et al.

Summary: Administration of the mitochondrial complex I inhibitor rotenone serves as a model for studying oxidative stress-related neural degeneration diseases. Glial cells play dual roles in retinal cell survival under rotenone-induced oxidative stress conditions, affecting gene expression and cell viability. Intravitreal administration of neurotrophin-5 can prevent rotenone-induced reduction of retinal ganglion cells and inner nuclear layer thickness in rats.
