Risk factors for hardware-related complications after extra-articular distal humerus fracture fixation using an anatomical locking plate

Hyoung-Seok Jung et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors of hardware-related complications in patients treated with anatomical locking plate fixation for extra-articular distal humerus fractures. The results showed that most patients developed hardware-related complications, especially with short plates, mainly due to the narrow lateral body length of the distal humerus. Surgeons should be careful to secure the extra-articular distal humerus locking plate in the appropriate position, especially when short plates are used in patients with a narrow lateral body length.

Comparison between anterior and posterior plating systems in extra-articular distal-third diaphyseal humeral fractures

Sang-Jin Shin et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical and radiological outcomes of anterior and posterior plating methods for extra-articular distal-third diaphyseal humeral fractures. The results showed that both methods provided satisfactory outcomes, but posterior plating was associated with plate-related discomfort.

Effect of Calcar Screw in Locking Compression Plate System for Osteoporotic Proximal Humerus Fracture: A Finite Element Analysis Study

Jung-Soo Lee et al.

Summary: This study proposes a finite element analysis model for complex fractures at the osteoporotic proximal humerus, and investigates the relevance of using a calcar screw in surgical treatments. The results show that the insertion of a calcar screw significantly reduces stress applied on the screws, improving fracture fixation.

Biomechanical evaluation of a modified proximal humeral locking plate application for distal extra-articular diaphyseal humeral fractures

Joon-Ryul Lim et al.

Summary: The study compared the biomechanical performance of the modified use of the PHILOS plate versus the conventional EADHP in distal humeral fractures, finding no significant differences in most metrics but a significantly higher load to failure in posterior bending for PHILOS. This suggests that the modified use of the PHILOS plate could be a viable option for distal humeral fractures when EADHP is not suitable.

Anatomic fit of precontoured extra-articular distal humeral locking plates: a cadaveric study

Joon-Ryul Lim et al.

Summary: This study found a negative linear correlation between humeral length and distal humeral width with EADHP plate protrusion. When the distal humeral width is less than 60.5 mm, using EADHP will result in a =10 mm plate protrusion, necessitating consideration of alternative implants or approaches.
