Comparative Study Between Two Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks as Adsorbents for Removal of Organoarsenic, As(III) and As(V) Species from Water

Khalil Ahmad et al.

Summary: Water-stable zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF) with zinc and cobalt cations were synthesized to investigate their efficiency in arsenic adsorption. The major mechanisms responsible for arsenic removal were found to be electrostatic attraction and ion exchange. FTIR analysis confirmed the adsorption of arsenic contaminants. Metal atoms in the synthesized MOFs had a minor impact on adsorption, but there was a slight difference in the removal of organo-arsenic among different metal atoms.

Effects of Electronegativity and Hydration Energy on the Selective Adsorption of Heavy Metal Ions by Synthetic NaX Zeolite

Xianyuan Fan et al.

Summary: Synthetic NaX zeolite exhibited selective adsorption capacity towards heavy metal ions, with Pb2+ and Cu2+ showing higher affinity due to their higher electronegativity, impacting the stability of the framework. The negatively charged O in the Si-O-Al structure of NaX zeolite played a key role in the selective adsorption mechanism for high electronegative metal ions, resulting in a strong affinity. This study evaluates the potential application and efficiency of zeolite in separating and recovering specific metal ions from industrial wastewater.
