Summary: This article investigates the geographical spread of COVID-19 cases and deaths across municipalities in Mexico, finding a rapid spread of the virus among municipalities and clusters of infections and deaths shifting from the country's center to other regions. Factors such as income inequality, obesity rates, prevalence of diabetes, and concentration of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) are strongly linked to confirmed cases and deaths regardless of lockdown measures.

Social inequality and the syndemic of chronic disease and COVID-19: county-level analysis in the USA

Summary: This study found that counties in the USA with higher levels of social vulnerability had significantly higher rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths, as well as higher prevalence of major chronic conditions. There was a geographic clustering of counties with high COVID-19 mortality, high chronic disease prevalence, and high social vulnerability, particularly in the southern USA. These counties experiencing a confluence of epidemics are likely to require enhanced public health and social support.
