C-reactive protein predicts complications in community-associated S. aureus bacteraemia: a cohort study

Carly L. Botheras et al.

Summary: Age, hemodialysis, and entry point from a diabetic foot ulcer were found to be protective factors against complications, while unknown entry point of infection, an entry point from an indwelling medical device, and high C-reactive protein concentration on admission day were significantly associated with complications. These factors can help identify at-risk patients for complications of S. aureus bacteraemia.
