Adsorptive removal of aromatic diamines from water using metal-organic frameworks functionalized with a nitro group

Gyudong Lee et al.

Summary: Adsorptive removal of aromatic diamines using nitro-functionalized metal-organic frameworks was studied. The frameworks exhibited superior performance in terms of adsorption capacity and kinetics compared to other adsorbents. Hydrogen bonding, specifically via the formation of a 6-membered ring, was identified as the main mechanism for the adsorption of the diamines. Additionally, the frameworks could be easily recycled and used for the purification of contaminated water.

Graphene oxide crosslinked chitosan composites for enhanced adsorption of cationic dye from aqueous solutions

Mai Lien Tran et al.

Summary: In this study, chitosan (CS) and graphene oxide (GO) were combined to synthesize CS/GO composites with different GO contents. The combination of CS and GO not only improved the surface area by reducing agglomeration of GO sheets, but also significantly enhanced the adsorption capacity of cationic dye on CS. The Langmuir adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB) reached 259.5 mg/g at pH 8 and 30 degrees C for the CS/GO12 material. The composite showed good adsorption-regeneration performance.

Removal of methylene blue dye from aqueous solution using an efficient chitosan-pectin bio-adsorbent: kinetics and isotherm studies

Ava Mohrazi et al.

Summary: In this study, a chitosan-pectin composite (Cs-Pc) was used as an adsorbent to remove methylene blue dye (MB) from synthetic wastewater. Batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the parameters affecting adsorption. The optimal conditions were found to be an initial MB concentration of 50 mg L-1, solution pH of 11, Cs-Pc dose of 1.5 g L-1, and 180 min contact time, resulting in a 97.77% removal of MB. Cs-Pc exhibited a higher ability to remove MB compared to chitosan and pectin due to its porous structure and rough surfaces that provide active sites for adsorption.

Removal of chloroquine from the aqueous solution by adsorption onto acai-based biochars: Kinetics, thermodynamics, and phytotoxicity

Ronald K. S. Santos et al.

Summary: This study aimed to use low-cost activated biochar from acai fruit endocarp to remove the emerging contaminant chloroquine (CQN) widely used in the COVID-19 pandemic through adsorption. Two different adsorbents were applied, one activated with zinc chloride at high temperature (CAA) and the other obtained by physical activation (CA). The results showed that the zinc chloride activation produced a material with a high specific surface area and pore volume. The adsorption process was thermodynamically favorable, and the maximum adsorption capacity for CQN was higher for the CAA adsorbent compared to CA.
