All-dielectric refractive index sensor based on Fano resonance with high sensitivity in the mid-infrared region

Yuhao Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel Fano resonance device based on periodical all-dielectric nanostructure was designed and analyzed for optical refractive index sensing, with high sensitivity, insensitivity to polarization and incident angle. The nanostructure showed a sensitivity of 986 nm/RIU and a maximum figure of merit of 32.7, outperforming metallic material sensors. This study could advance optical sensing, bio-sensing, and environmental monitoring.

Active Control of Nanodielectric-Induced THz Quasi-BIC in Flexible Metasurfaces: A Platform for Modulation and Sensing

Thomas CaiWei Tan et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the creation of a dynamically controllable quasi-bound state in the continuum (QBIC) with ultrahigh quality factor by embedding nanometric dielectric or semiconductor layers on a symmetric metallic metasurface at terahertz frequencies. The photoexcitation of nanostrips of germanium enables ultrafast switching of a QBIC resonance with significant transmission intensity modulation, presenting opportunities for active micro-nanophotonic devices. An optimization model is provided for (switchable) QBIC resonances in metamaterial arrays, which can serve as an enabling platform for active micro-nanophotonic devices.

Electron beam lithography with negative tone resist for highly integrated silicon quantum bits

Kimihiko Kato et al.

Summary: Process technologies have been developed for electron-beam lithography aimed at silicon quantum devices. The study investigated lithography of Si quantum devices using a point-beam EB system and specialized resist, optimizing temperatures and dose assignment to achieve fine patterns. It is expected to provide useful process technologies for EB lithography.

Recent Advances in Reactive Ion Etching and Applications of High-Aspect-Ratio Microfabrication

Michael Huff

Summary: This paper reviews advances in reaction-ion etching (RIE) for high-aspect-ratio microfabrication, highlighting the importance of anisotropic etching for precise control of device dimensions. Newer RIE methods have enabled deeper etches and higher aspect ratios, particularly in the development and production of silicon-based micro- and nano-machined devices.
