Rapid microwave-assisted synthesis of nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots as fluorescent nanosensors for the spectrofluorimetric determination of palbociclib: application for cellular imaging and selective probing in living cancer cells

Galal Magdy et al.

Summary: This study presents a spectrofluorimetric approach for the assessment of palbociclib, which does not require pre-derivatization steps. The approach utilizes the quenching effect of palbociclib on the fluorescence of nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs). N-CQDs were synthesized using a microwave-assisted pyrolysis procedure with orange juice as the carbon source and urea as the nitrogen source. The prepared N-CQDs exhibited good fluorescence properties and were characterized by their spherical shape and narrow size distribution. The proposed methodology showed good selectivity and was validated for its application in tablets.

Mina T. Kelleni

Summary: Immune and inflammatory mediators play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of COVID-19, and repurposing drugs with anti-inflammatory and/or immune-modulatory effects is considered a rational approach. Studies support the combination of nitazoxanide and azithromycin, low-dose aspirin, and colchicine in the treatment of COVID-19. Researchers advocate for sufficiently powered double-blind randomized clinical trials to validate the efficacy of these drugs.
