Curcumin Targeting NF-κB/Ubiquitin-Proteasome-System Axis Ameliorates Muscle Atrophy in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cachexia Mice

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: Curcumin has therapeutic effects on breast cancer cachexia by inhibiting tumor growth, reducing weight loss and muscle mass decline, and improving muscle function. It also decreases muscle inflammation, ubiquitination levels, and NF-KB pathway activation by regulating energy metabolism pathways.

Caspase-3 mediated switch therapy of self-triggered and long-acting prodrugs for metastatic TNBC

Ha Rin Kim et al.

Summary: This article describes a tumoral caspase-3 mediated peptide-doxorubicin conjugates (PDC) switch therapy for targeting metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. The therapy utilizes two different caspase-3 cleavable PDCs to induce apoptosis in tumor cells and target tumor sites, resulting in enhanced tumor-specific apoptosis amplification and potent therapeutic efficacy.

A Comprehensive Review on the Therapeutic Potential of Curcuma longa Linn. in Relation to its Major Active Constituent Curcumin

Shivkanya Fuloria et al.

Summary: Curcuma longa, commonly known as turmeric, has a long history of medicinal use. Its major constituent, curcumin, is well known for its therapeutic potential in various disorders. However, there is still a lack of literature and clinical trials on the therapeutic potential of turmeric. Further research is needed to explore its phytochemical ingredients, pharmacology, toxicity, and safety aspects, as well as its relationship with curcumin.

Curcumin sensitizes carboplatin treatment in triple negative breast cancer through reactive oxygen species induced DNA repair pathway

Genjin Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that carboplatin has different effects on different TNBC cells. Combination treatment with curcumin can improve the sensitivity of resistant TNBC cells to carboplatin by inhibiting cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. Curcumin enhances the anticancer effect of carboplatin by increasing ROS-induced DNA damage.

Curcumin analog B14 has high bioavailability and enhances the effect of anti-breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo

Hui Shen et al.

Summary: The synthetic curcumin analog B14 demonstrated promising anticancer activity and selectivity in breast cancer cells, inhibiting proliferation and metastasis through multiple pathways including cell cycle arrest at G1 phase and mitochondrial apoptosis induction. Additionally, B14 was more effective than curcumin in suppressing cell migration, invasion, and colony formation, and showed significant tumor growth inhibition and anti-angiogenic effects in vivo, with improved stability compared to curcumin.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Chitosan-Coated Halloysite Nanotubes As Vehicle for Controlled Drug Delivery to MCF-7 Cancer Cells In Vitro

Emmanuel Nyankson et al.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the release properties of curcumin onto human breast cancer cell lines using coated halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) with chitosan as a polycation. Results showed potential of chitosan-coated HNTs as sustained drug carriers and demonstrated potential anti-cancer effects in vitro cell experiments.
