Guidelines for Preventing and Treating Vitamin D Deficiency: A 2023 Update in Poland

Pawel Pludowski et al.

Summary: It is found that vitamin D deficiency is prevalent among the Polish population based on epidemiological studies. To address this concern, a Polish multidisciplinary group reviewed the evidence and formulated recommendations for prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency. The final Polish recommendations included a range of serum vitamin D levels indicating deficiency, guidelines for prophylaxis and treatment, and the importance of improving the overall population's vitamin D status and treating at-risk patient groups.

Normal-weight central obesity and risk of cardiovascular and microvascular events in adults with prediabetes or diabetes: Chinese and British cohorts

Pingting Zhong et al.

Summary: The distribution of body fat is related to the risk of cardiometabolic and microvascular diseases among individuals with prediabetes or diabetes, regardless of their normal body mass index. Measures such as waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio, and trunk-to-leg fat ratio can be used to assess the risk of disease progression.

Supplementing Vitamin D in Different Patient Groups to Reduce Deficiency

Pawel Pludowski

Summary: Studies indicate a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in both the general population and at-risk groups. Given the association between vitamin D deficiency and various diseases, addressing this concern becomes crucial, especially in situations where routine monitoring is challenging.

Evaluation of the Value of Waist Circumference and Metabolomics in the Estimation of Visceral Adipose Tissue

Sebastiaan C. Boone et al.

Summary: This study showed that estimation of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) can be improved by incorporating waist circumference but not by metabolite measurements. Adding waist circumference and other anthropometric measurements to prediction models increased the accuracy of VAT estimation.

John P. Bilezikian et al.

Summary: The conference discussed the important role of vitamin D in skeletal and extra-skeletal systems, recommending personalized management based on the specific mechanisms underlying vitamin D deficiency in different diseases. Furthermore, the supplementation of vitamin D in COVID-19 and the optimal route of administration for vitamin D in different clinical conditions were also discussed.
