Inverse association between Mediterranean diet and risk of multiple sclerosis

Lars Alfredsson et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the influence of dietary habits on the risk of developing multiple sclerosis (MS). The results showed that Mediterranean diet was associated with a lower risk of MS, while vegetarian/vegan diet or diet with low glycemic index had no significant association with MS risk.

MIND Diet Adherence Might be Associated with a Reduced Odds of Multiple Sclerosis: Results from a Case-Control Study

Morvarid Noormohammadi et al.

Summary: This research found that adherence to the Mediterranean Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay (MIND) diet is associated with a reduced risk of multiple sclerosis (MS). Consuming more green leafy vegetables, other vegetables, and beans was found to decrease the odds of MS, while consuming pastries and sweets, cheese, poultry, and fried/fast foods increased the odds of developing MS.

The Role of Diet and Interventions on Multiple Sclerosis: A Review

Panagiotis Stoiloudis et al.

Summary: This article provides a review of the role of diet in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and the effects of dietary interventions on MS activity and progression. Research suggests that diet may affect the onset, course, and quality of life in MS patients. Further large prospective clinical studies are needed to thoroughly evaluate the role of diet in MS.

Dietary Acid Load and Bone Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies

Fatemeh Gholami et al.

Summary: The findings on the association between dietary acid load (DAL) and bone health are conflicting. This study aimed to summarize the available studies and found that adopting diets high in acidity was not associated with the risk of fractures, while NEAP was negatively correlated with bone mineral density (BMD).

Association between dietary acid load and metabolic health status in overweight and obese adolescents

Mahsa Rezazadegan et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to examine the association between dietary acid load (DAL) and metabolic health status in overweight/obese Iranian adolescents. The study found that adolescents in the highest tertile of potential renal acid load (PRAL) and net endogenous acid production (NEAP) had higher odds of unhealthy obese (MUO) status based on IDF criteria. These associations were significant after adjustment for age, sex, and energy intake, but disappeared after adjustment for other confounders.

Effect of nutrition on neurodegenerative diseases. A systematic review

Vittorio Emanuele Bianchi et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by the loss of neurons in the brain, and nutrition plays a crucial role in their pathogenesis and development. The Mediterranean diet, nutritional support, and calorie-controlled diets have a protective effect against cognitive decline and diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, while malnutrition and insulin resistance are significant risk factors.

Mediterranean diet and depression: a population-based cohort study

Weiyao Yin et al.

Summary: A high adherence to a Mediterranean diet in middle age was associated with a lower risk of depression later in life among Swedish women, as shown by a 20.4-year follow-up study. This association was stronger for severe depression and with increasing age.

Summary: The study identified a positive correlation between a Western dietary pattern and depression, and a negative correlation between a healthy dietary pattern and depression in adolescent Iranian girls. More research is needed to confirm these findings.

The Association Between Dietary Acid Load and Odds of Migraine: A Case-Control Survey

Maryam Mousavi et al.

Summary: High dietary acid load is associated with increased odds of migraine. Restricting dietary acid load may reduce the likelihood of migraine in susceptible individuals. Further well-designed studies are needed for a better understanding of this relationship.
