Systematic Review of Lifestyle Interventions for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus in Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period

Shuyuan Huang et al.

Summary: This study examines the characteristics and effectiveness of lifestyle interventions for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy and the postpartum period to prevent Type 2 diabetes. The results show that interventions with personalized care and good participant retention have significant effects on improving glucose regulation and weight change. However, limitations such as lack of personalized interventions, low participant retention rates, and lack of culturally sensitive care restrict the effectiveness of other interventions.

Summary: In this study, the efficacy of a smartphone app in helping women with a history of GDM restore optimal weight postpartum was investigated. While a statistically significant increase in achieving healthy weight was not observed, the intervention group reported improved health behaviors and lower caloric intake. High retention rates suggest that further research with a longer follow-up period may confirm the effectiveness of this app for weight management.

A Smartphone App (TRIANGLE) to Change Cardiometabolic Risk Behaviors in Women Following Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Intervention Mapping Approach

Anne Lotte Potzel et al.

Summary: The study systematically planned and developed a theory- and evidence-based mHealth intervention to change cardiometabolic risk behaviors in women during the first 5 years post-GDM, meeting women's expected standards of commercial health apps. The resulting TRIANGLE app showed high acceptance, perceived quality, and impact on health behaviors in user studies, with potential to support behavior change for cardiometabolic disease prevention pending further refinement and testing in clinical trials. Intervention mapping steps 5 and 6 may support the integration of the TRIANGLE intervention into routine care.
