Extensive Summary of the Important Roles of Indole Propionic Acid, a Gut Microbial Metabolite in Host Health and Disease

Hui Jiang et al.

Summary: Increasing evidence suggests that gut microbiota metabolites, particularly indole propionic acid (IPA), produced from dietary tryptophan, play a crucial role in host-microbe interactions and have potential therapeutic applications in diseases such as NAFLD, Alzheimer's disease, and breast cancer. IPA enhances gut barrier function, modulates the immune system, and maintains systemic homeostasis through the gut-organ axis. However, further research is needed to understand the effects and mechanisms of IPA on host health and disease for improved treatment strategies.

The Potential of L-Arginine in Prevention and Treatment of Disturbed Carbohydrate and Lipid Metabolism-A Review

Aleksandra Szlas et al.

Summary: L-arginine is a safe endogenous amino acid involved in various regulatory functions in the body. It may be helpful in managing disturbed metabolism, regulating blood pressure, and alleviating type 2 diabetes symptoms, but the mechanisms underlying these effects are not fully understood.

The Role of D-Serine and D-Aspartate in the Pathogenesis and Therapy of Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia

Regina F. Nasyrova et al.

Summary: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder where current antipsychotic treatments are ineffective for about a third of patients and do not address negative symptoms and cognitive deficits. D-Serine and D-Aspartate are promising biological compounds that may play a role in modulating neurotransmission dysfunction and offer potential for a disease-modifying therapy for treatment-resistant Schizophrenia.

Exploring the Barriers and Motivators to Dietary Adherence among Caregivers of Children with Disorders of Amino Acid Metabolism (AAMDs): A Qualitative Study

Jing Ying Lim et al.

Summary: This study explored the perception of barriers and motivators to dietary adherence among caregivers of patients with disorders of amino acid metabolism in Malaysia. The findings identified barriers such as burden of dietary treatment, diet and dietary behavior, parenting challenges, limited knowledge related to dietary treatment, and challenges in healthcare system delivery. Key factors facilitating good dietary adherence include good knowledge of dietary treatment, parental coping strategies, social coping, and dietary behavior.

Leucine Supplementation in Cancer Cachexia: Mechanisms and a Review of the Pre-Clinical Literature

Anna G. Beaudry et al.

Summary: Cancer cachexia is a syndrome of bodily wasting and functional decline. Nutritional support, particularly amino acid supplementation, is important in managing cachexia. Leucine has been found to increase protein synthesis and decrease degradation. Current research suggests that a leucine-rich diet can attenuate cachexia symptoms, but further studies are needed to explore its effects on protein turnover, immune response, and tumor growth.

Pretreatment Glasgow Prognostic Score Correlated with Serum Histidine Level and Three-Year Mortality of Patients with Locally Advanced Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Optimal Performance Status

Kun-Yun Yeh et al.

Summary: This study found that poor nutrition and high inflammation severity before treatment may lead to inferior survival outcomes in patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Therefore, the assessment of pretreatment nutritional and inflammatory status should be included in future studies.

Metabokines in the regulation of systemic energy metabolism

Amanda DV. MacCannell et al.

Summary: Metabolism is a complex process involving chemical reactions and metabolites. Recent research has shown that metabolites not only play a passive role in metabolic processes, but also function as signaling molecules that regulate cellular and systemic physiology. These bioactive metabolite signals, known as metabokines, regulate various energy metabolism pathways in multiple tissues. Studying these metabokine signaling axes can help us understand how they are perturbed in metabolic diseases and their potential as therapeutic targets.
