Application of the Ritz method for the bending and stress analysis of thin rectilinear orthotropic composite sector plates

Valerio G. Belardi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the linear elastic behavior of composite sector plates with rectilinear orthotropy, focusing on the determination of displacement and stress fields. The plates are reinforced with unidirectional fibers organized along straight directions that make variable angles with the radial direction. The fundamental equations for these plates are obtained using Classical Lamination Theory, and the mid-surface deflection is derived using a combination of the principle of virtual works and the Ritz method. Various displacement constraints and approximation functions are considered, and symmetrical stacking sequences are used to validate the proposed method.

Nonlinear bending and thermal postbuckling of thermoplastic composite laminated plates under temperature variation

Taoye Lu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a physical model to report new features of CFRTPC laminated plates undergoing thermo-mechanical loads. The temperature-dependent and strain-dependent stress-strain relations of CFRTPC are determined experimentally, and the nonlinear bending responses and thermal postbuckling behaviors of CFRTPC laminated plates are predicted. The influences of temperature variation, geometric parameters and boundary conditions on the nonlinear bending deflection, moment and thermal postbuckling behaviors are compared.

Nonlinear deflection characteristics of damaged composite structure theoretical prediction and experimental verification

Vikash Kumar et al.

Summary: This research presents a nonlinear computational model for predicting the deflection responses of damaged layered composite structures. The model is verified through in-house experimentation. The model utilizes higher-order polynomial kinematics, Green's strain, and nonlinear isoparametric finite element technique to numerically evaluate the deflection responses of combined damage curved shell structures. The accuracy of the model is explored by comparing it with published literature and experimental results, demonstrating its efficacy.

3D printing and modelling of continuous carbon fibre reinforced composite grids with enhanced shear modulus

Yuan Chen et al.

Summary: In this research, topologically-tailored continuous carbon fibre reinforced polyamide composite grids were 3D printed to show enhanced shear modulus. A numerical scheme was developed to predict the elastic responses and behaviors of the printed composite grids. The experiments verified the design and the numerical model, and the results showed a significant increase in shear modulus.

Dynamic behaviour of Bio-inspired heterocyclic aramid Fibre-reinforced laminates subjected to Low-velocity Drop-weight impact

Caizheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the low-velocity impact response of two helicoidal laminates and found that the bio-inspired linear helicoidal laminate had the highest stiffness and impact resistance under out-of-plane low-velocity impact. However, compared to cross-ply laminates, helicoidal laminates showed lower energy absorption capabilities.

A novel experiment-based approach on nonlinear bending analysis of thermoplastic composite laminates

Taoye Lu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel experimental approach and a new physical model for analyzing the nonlinear bending behavior of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic (CFRTP) composites. The bimodular nonlinear model is validated through comparison with experimental data and finite element analysis results, leading to a discussion on the effects of various factors on the nonlinear bending properties of CFRTP composite laminate plates.
