Characterization of Magnesium and Zinc Forms of Sodalite Coatings on Ti6Al4V ELI for Potential Application in the Release of Drugs for Osteoporosis

Mariusz Sandomierski et al.

Summary: Osteoporosis is a common metabolic disease of the skeletal system, characterized by impaired bone strength and increased risk of low-energy fractures. Tissue engineering with surface modification and bisphosphonates may be a new method for preventing the deterioration of osteoporosis. Titanium implants coated with magnesium or zinc zeolite have been prepared and successfully released risedronate at a low level, indicating the potential for endoprostheses in patients with bone diseases.

Formation of the octadecylphosphonic acid layer on the surface of Ti6Al4V ELI titanium alloy and analysis using Raman spectroscopy

Joanna Szczuka et al.

Summary: The main objective of the research is to improve the bonding of hydroxyapatite (HA) on the surface of titanium alloy, with a focus on the role of octadecylphosphonic acid (ODPA). The results show that ODPA can increase the precipitation of HA, while adding ODPA to annealed titanium alloy restricts the precipitation of HA on its surface.

Effect of post heat treatment on surface properties of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) treated titanium

Sayed Hossein Mirdamadi et al.

Summary: Different heat treatment temperatures were applied to titanium implants after surface modification using chemical treatment with hydrogen peroxide. XRD analysis showed that the main phase on the surface of heat-treated samples below 650 ? was anatase. Raman spectroscopy confirmed the presence of anatase as the dominant phase along the Raman shift with noticeable peak intensity. FESEM observation indicated that the porous structures did not significantly change in morphology with increasing temperature. Contact angle and ellipsometry measurements were used to determine the hydrophobicity and optical properties of the oxide surface, respectively.

The fluorescence background in Raman spectra of sound enamel

Tomasz Buchwald et al.

Summary: Raman spectroscopy is being developed for early detection of dental caries. The study assessed the influence of organic compounds in healthy human enamel on the background intensity in Raman spectra. Results showed that the Raman spectroscopy background may be useful in dental research but should be treated cautiously as fluorescence may be related to organic compounds in plaque, not in the carious lesion.

Patients Undergoing Hip or Knee Arthroplasty in Poland Based on National Data-Challenge for Healthcare in Aging Society

Mateusz Gajda et al.

Summary: Arthroplasty procedures, particularly hip and knee replacements, are increasingly common in Poland. This study analyzed national datasets from 2017, showing a majority of primary surgeries with patients mostly hospitalized due to arthrosis. Comorbidities were prevalent, highlighting the need for better pre-surgery preparation as patients age.
