Carbonation of calcium sulfoaluminate cement blended with blast furnace slag

Joonho Seo et al.

Summary: The addition of slag did not affect the phase composition of the samples, but promoted the formation of monosulfate and stratlingite during carbonation. Monosulfate and ettringite were the first phases to be carbonated, and the carbonation degree increased significantly with higher slag content, leading to the formation of macropores.

Summary: The experimental study focused on developing low-carbon, eco-friendly cement with a low water/binder ratio and good mechanical performance. Mixing slag-CSAe-SF at specific ratios showed promising mechanical properties for structural use, despite lower early age strength, necessitating further research for improvement.

Early Hydration Heat of Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement with Influences of Supplementary Cementitious Materials and Water to Binder Ratio

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: Compared to OPC, CSA displays very early-age strength and faster heat-releasing rate during hydration, with three exothermic peaks identified during the process. The addition of SF affects the timing of reaction peaks, while decreasing w/c significantly reduces heat release peaks. An optimal use of SCMs in CSA pastes under different w/c can greatly decrease heat releasing while maintaining the required strength.

The Application of Spent Coffee Grounds and Tea Wastes as Additives in Alkali-Activated Bricks

Leopold Lee Poh Chung et al.

Summary: The traditional firing process for building bricks is not sustainable due to high temperatures and emissions, leading to a growing interest in investing in green technologies with minimal environmental impacts. This study explored the use of Spent Coffee Grounds (SCG) and Tea Waste (TW) as additives for manufacturing unfired clay bricks through alkali-activation. Results showed that samples with up to 2.5 wt% SCG and 10 wt% TW met the minimum compressive strength requirement for structural applications, highlighting the potential for sustainable construction practices.

Summary: This study found that the average Ea values of CSA cements are high, with slight increases when silica fume replaces cement, and potential decreases or increases when Class C fly ash is used. Ea values calculated using different methods may vary, with those determined using heat of hydration being higher than those obtained using chemical shrinkage when using the exponential method.
