Comparative Study of the Photocatalytic Degradation of Crystal Violet Using Ferromagnetic Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles and MgO-Bentonite Nanocomposite

Sally E. A. Elashery et al.

Summary: This study reports on the application of synthesized magnesium oxide nanoparticles and MgO-bentonite nanocomposite as effective photocatalysts for the degradation of crystal violet in wastewater. Characterization techniques including FTIR, XRPD, EDX, and TEM were used. The photocatalytic efficiency of the synthesized photocatalysts was optimized by varying factors such as pH, contact time, catalyst dosage, and dye concentration. The highest degradation efficiency for crystal violet was achieved at a pH of 7 and using 0.2 g of MgO NPs. The photocatalytic reaction was found to be mediated by holes and followed a pseudo-first-order kinetic model.

Magnetic TiO2/CoFe2O4 Photocatalysts for Degradation of Organic Dyes and Pharmaceuticals without Oxidants

Islam Ibrahim et al.

Summary: In this study, CoFe2O4 and TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel method, and then a hydrothermal procedure was used to prepare CoFe2O4-loaded TiO2 magnetic composites. The materials were characterized using various techniques, and their photocatalytic degradation performance and magnetic properties were evaluated. The results showed that the CoFe2O4-loaded TiO2 composites exhibited excellent degradation performance in the absence of oxidants, with the highest efficiency observed for the degradation of tetracycline. Additionally, the composites had good magnetic properties, allowing for easy removal from the treated solution using a magnet.

Silver decorated TiO2/g-C3N4 bifunctional nanocomposites for photocatalytic elimination of water pollutants under UV and artificial solar light

Islam Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Ternary TiO2/g-C3N4@Ag nanocomposites were synthesized and used as highly effective bifunctional photocatalysts for the degradation of organic pollutants and the reduction of Cr(VI). The nanocomposites showed high photocatalytic activity under UV light and artificial solar light, achieving efficient removal of various pollutants with degradation percentages up to 95% for MB and 89% for RhB. The nanocomposites also demonstrated excellent catalytic reduction performance for 4-NP and Cr(VI) under UV illumination.

Sonochemical preparation of SnS and SnS2 nano- and micropowders and their characterization

Grzegorz Matyszczak et al.

Summary: The sonochemical production of tin(II) and tin(IV) sulfides was investigated under different synthesis conditions, leading to insights on the influence of experimental parameters on the composition, morphology, and bandgap of the obtained products. Longer sonication times were found to favor more crystalline products, with most bandgaps showing typical values but some exceptions existing. Various forms of synthesized powders were observed, with ethanol and ethylenediamine as solvents exhibiting different outcomes in terms of product composition.
