Selective laser welding in liquid: A strategy for preparation of high-antibacterial activity nanozyme against Staphylococcus aureus

Yang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-antibacterial activity SOD-like nanozyme based on hybrid Ag/CeO2 nanocomposite was prepared using selective laser welding in liquid. The prepared nanozyme exhibited a high antimicrobial effect against Staphylococcus aureus under visible light illumination, with a sterilization rate as high as 82.4%, which was significantly higher than pure Ag and pure CeO2. The enhanced antibacterial activity was attributed to the anchoring of Ag nanospheres on the surface of CeO2 nanosheets, promoting visible light harvesting and generating abundant reactive oxygen species.

Green synthesized Ag decorated CeO2 nanoparticles: Efficient photocatalysts and potential antibacterial agents.

Awais Ahmad et al.

Summary: The use of natural resources for manufacturing nanoparticles is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach with applications in ecology and medicine. This study synthesized CeO2 and Ag/CeO2 nanoparticles from Morinda tinctoria plant extract and analyzed their phase structure, surface morphology, optical properties, and valency. The nanoparticles showed a cubic phase structure with silver decoration, metal-oxygen stretching, and decreased band gap. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy confirmed their spherical morphology, while energy dispersive spectroscopy assessed their elemental composition and purity. The nanoparticles exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity and antibacterial properties when compared to CeO2. This research contributes to the development of green synthesis of versatile metal nanoparticles.

Effect of Ag content on the nanostructure and antimicrobial activity of CeO2

Limny Esther Perez Jimenez et al.

Summary: The morphological and antibacterial effects of CeO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with different amounts of Ag precursor were investigated. The NPs were synthesized with varying percentages of silver nitrate content using co-precipitation method. The addition of Ag precursor resulted in slightly decreased particle size and increased antimicrobial activity, with reduction rates reaching up to 99.999%.
