Effect of different fillers on thermal conductivity, tribological properties of Polyamide 6

Gyorgy Czel et al.

Summary: The influence of different fillers on the thermal and abrasive wear properties of polyamide-6 was investigated. Fillers such as Al2O3, MgO, glass powders, and natural zeolite powder were added to the polymer matrix. The results showed that the thermal conductive enhancement factor was highest for PA6/70 wt% Al2O3 and PA6/hybrid fillers 75 wt%. The abrasive effect of the fillers was characterized using the pin-on-disc method, and a new parameter considering both thermal conductivity and abrasive effect was developed.

Enhanced thermal performance from liquid metal in copper/graphite filled elastomer

Yisimayili Tuersun et al.

Summary: With the increasing integration level of modern electronics, thermal management becomes a critical issue. This study utilizes highly ordered graphite and copper stripes in silicone gel pads to achieve high thermal conductivity and mechanical softness. The addition of liquid metal (LM) on the surface of thermal pads significantly improves the thermal conductivity and decreases the thermal resistance. The results demonstrate the excellent thermal management capability of these composites in high-power electronics.

Characterization of polypropylene/magnesium oxide/vapor-grown carbon fiber composites prepared by melt compounding

Shuichi Tanoue et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the characteristics and properties of polypropylene (PP)/magnesium oxide (MgO) composites prepared by melt compounding, as well as the effect of adding vapor-grown carbon fiber (VGCF) on the properties of the composites. The study finds that the thermal conductivity of the composites increases with MgO content and further increases with the addition of VGCF. Moreover, adding VGCF significantly reduces the surface resistance and enhances the non-Newtonian property of the composite.

Summary: Thermal greases are an alternative to solders, thermal adhesives or pads as thermal interface material (TIM) for power and microprocessor applications. The problem of thermal overload failure due to pump-out of thermal grease has been addressed in this paper. Accelerated test setups and a new test rig called the GPOT have been introduced to gain scientific insight into grease degradation and provide guidelines for grease selection and reliability.
