Tuning the defects density in additively manufactured fcc aluminium alloy via modifying the cellular structure and post-processing deformation

P. Snopinski et al.

Summary: This study investigates the typical structural defects caused by severe plastic deformation in an L-PBF AlSi10Mg alloy with different microstructural properties using scanning electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Microscopic characterization reveals that the deformed alloy exhibits a heterogeneous microstructure with Al/Si interfaces and a high density of dislocations, stacking faults, and nanotwins. Experimental data shows that high stresses build up at the Al/Si interface, activating novel deformation modes that control the plastic deformation of the hard Si twin phase and amorphization in the solid state. The revealed synergy and novel deformation modes have implications for the development of next-generation structural materials and provide insights into the atomically resolved structures of dislocations and GBs in nanostructured L-PBF alloys.

Hot tensile behavior of a 7046-aluminum alloy: Fracture mechanisms and constitutive models

Daoguang He et al.

Summary: The high-temperature tensile features of a 7046-aluminum alloy were studied by conducting hot tensile experiments under different forming parameters. The influences of tensile forming parameters on the flow behaviors and fracture characteristics were analyzed. The improved Hensel-Spittel-Carofalo (HSC) model and long short-term memory (LSTM) model were proposed to reproduce the hot tensile characteristics. The results showed that the formation of dimples was aggravated at high strain rate, but the coalescence of dimples increased with the ascending of tensile temperature, leading to better elongation to fracture. The developed LSTM model and improved HSC model exhibited preferred reconstructing capability for the high-temperature tensile behaviors of the researched aluminum alloy, as verified by the analysis.

Processing map and hot deformation behavior of squeeze cast 6082 aluminum alloy

Lei Deng et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of 6082 aluminum alloy fabricated through squeeze casting (SC) under different pressures were studied. It was found that higher SC pressure resulted in the generation of more dynamic recrystallization (DRX) grains during deformation. However, the effect of SC pressure on microstructure evolution weakened at high temperature due to the dissolution of second phase particles. Additionally, uneven second phase particles in specimens fabricated under higher SC pressure compressed with low temperature and middle strain rate would lead to flow localization instability. The optimum deformation conditions for the 6082 aluminum alloy fabricated by SC were determined to be temperatures of 430-500℃ and strain rates of 0.01-1 s(-1).
