Use of waste glass powder toward more sustainable geopolymer concrete

Ali Ihsan Celik et al.

Summary: The influence of waste glass powder (WGP) and fly ash in different proportions on geo-polymer concrete (GPC) was investigated by changing the molarity of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and the WGP percentage. The addition of WGP reduced the workability and setting time, while molarity significantly affected the setting time. A combination of 10% WGP and M13 NaOH was recommended for optimal sustainable GPC considering both fresh and hardening properties. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was also performed.

Shear behaviour of reinforced concrete beams utilizing waste marble powder

Bogachan Basaran et al.

Summary: The usability of waste marble dust (WMD) in different proportions was investigated for the purpose of eliminating environmental problems in reinforced concrete beams (RCBs). The results showed that the addition of WMD additives negatively affected the bearing capacity of the beams. The design regulations of ACI 318 (2019) and EC2 (2004) performed well in estimating shear strength in RCBs with stirrup spacing of 200 mm and 160 mm.

Flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams using waste marble powder towards application of sustainable concrete

Memduh Karalar et al.

Summary: The waste marble powder can be successfully used as 10% of the partial replacement of cement, increasing the ratio beyond 10% can significantly decrease the capacity of the beams, especially when longitudinal reinforcement ratio is high.

Use of recycled coal bottom ash in reinforced concrete beams as replacement for aggregate

Memduh Karalar et al.

Summary: This research investigates the crack and flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams with various bottom ash ratios. Experimental and numerical tests show that a 75% bottom ash ratio results in the optimum displacement capacity. Simulations and experiments yield tiny cracks with very similar configurations.

Experimental investigation of flexural and shear behaviors of reinforced concrete beam containing fine plastic waste aggregates

Ayoob A. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: Previous research has investigated the use of plastic waste as a substitute for natural sand aggregate in concrete. However, the lack of sufficient quality and quantity of fine plastic waste aggregates has been a major limitation. This study conducted experimental investigations on the performance of reinforced concrete beams containing fine plastic waste aggregates as a partial substitute. The results showed that the use of these aggregates in the concrete mix decreased its workability and various strength properties. Methods were also proposed to enhance the strength of these beams, with the addition of polyvinyl alcohol in the mix being the most effective.
