Asymmetrical Dimer Photonic Crystals Enabling Outstanding Optical Sensing Performance

Hicham Mangach et al.

Summary: The exploration of engineered materials' propensity to bring forward innovations based on their periodic nanostructured tailoring has propelled optical sensors to the forefront of ultra-sensitive bio-identification. Numerical analysis based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to investigate and optimize the optical properties of a unidirectional asymmetric dimer photonic crystal. The proposed optical sensor demonstrated promising prospects for monitoring the DNA hybridization process with a high quality factor and detection limit.

Nonlinearly tunable extraordinary optical transmission in a hybird metamaterial

Weiqi Cai et al.

Summary: In this work, a hybrid metamaterial exhibiting extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) behavior was theoretically and experimentally studied. The transmission amplitude and frequency can be modulated by utilizing the first-order Mie-resonant mode and the nonlinear effect of the dielectric cuboid.

Analysis of Fano lineshape in extraordinary optical transmission

S. C. Lee et al.

Summary: The lineshape of extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) associated with surface plasma waves (SPWs) excited by a metal photonic crystal (MPC) is analyzed. The resonance energy of the fundamental SPW is extracted through Fano interference and its accuracy is verified experimentally. Other lineshape parameters and the Fano interference condition for EOT are determined.
