Safe and secure vehicle routing: a survey on minimization of risk exposure

Georg E. A. Froehlich et al.

Summary: This study reviews and categorizes literature on safe and secure vehicle routing problems and provides a starting point for researchers in this field. The study reveals that the majority of related articles have been published in the last five years and cover various aspects such as transportation of hazardous materials, patrol routing, cash-in-transit, dissimilar routing problems, and modeling of multi-graphs. The paper also discusses relevant methods and instances, along with identifying future research directions.

CSR investment for a two-sided platform: Network externality and risk aversion

Wanying Wei et al.

Summary: The business of two-sided platforms such as online ride-sharing has grown rapidly, but complying with CSR regulations is a challenge, especially on the supply side. This paper develops a game-theoretic model for a two-sided platform and analyzes the effects of network externalities and risk aversion on CSR investment decision-making. The results show that network externalities may not necessarily stimulate CSR investment, while risk aversion consistently encourages CSR investment.

The strategic analysis of service mode selection for a ride-hailing platform

Dongliang Guo et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of service mode selection strategy on consumers and drivers in a ride-hailing platform. The platform offers three service modes: Mode L (low-quality services), Mode H (high-quality services), and Mode HL (high- and low-quality services). The results show that the service mode does not affect the price and wage of low-quality services, but it does affect high-quality services. Interestingly, the platform cannot optimally select Mode L. Surprisingly, Mode HL brings the highest surplus to both consumers and drivers, and this is influenced by the car quality difference, social status utility of consumers, and cost ratio between the two types of services provided by drivers.

Impact of regulation on on-demand ride-sharing service: Profit-based target vs demand-based target

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: The rise of the sharing economy provides an opportunity to explore its benefits, but also poses challenges for traditional taxi services. How to regulate ride-sharing platforms remains controversial. Through game theory and price regulation analysis, we found that the platform's pricing is not significantly affected by regulation. We also discovered that under certain circumstances, both taxi services and ride-sharing services can coexist without regulation, depending on taxi prices. Additionally, we found that regulation does not improve social welfare, unless the platform offers low-end services and the two types of services are highly homogeneous.

Differential pricing strategies of ride-sharing platforms: choosing customers or drivers?

Daozhi Zhao et al.

Summary: Ride-sharing platforms use differential pricing strategies to encourage participation, but it is unclear if these strategies are reasonable. Platforms face a unique dilemma when considering differential pricing, and different pricing strategies are optimal based on varying conditions of potential driver numbers.

Pricing strategy selection for the sharing platform with heterogeneous laborers

Tengfei Nie et al.

Summary: Labor-sharing platforms have attracted widespread attention, but they lack a unified pricing strategy. Research shows that the impact of the platform's commission rate on the price is nonmonotonic and the market composition and service quality can affect the pricing strategy of labor-sharing platforms.

Competition Between Two-Sided Platforms Under Demand and Supply Congestion Effects

Fernando Bernstein et al.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of competition and multihoming between platforms in the sharing economy, particularly in the context of ride-sharing platforms. It analyzes equilibrium outcomes and supply-demand dynamics in both single-homing and multihoming settings. The study finds that surge pricing in response to increased demand benefits drivers and customers, and proposes an incentive mechanism to discourage multihoming among drivers for better overall outcomes.

Yanmei Jiang et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact of trust, risks, and attractiveness of alternatives on customer confirmation, satisfaction, and continuance intention in the sharing economy. It found that satisfaction and continuance intention are partially mediated by platform-based trust, driver-based trust, and the attractiveness of alternatives, with inconsistent mediation by structural assurance. Additionally, physical and psychological risks can positively moderate the relationship between driver-based trust and continuance intention.
