Thoughts on how to think (and talk) about RNA structure

Quentin Vicens et al.

Summary: Recent events have brought RNA research into the spotlight, igniting a new passion for understanding the diverse functions and structure of RNA. However, there is a misunderstanding of the foundational characteristics of RNA structure, often viewed as a single floppy strand. The purpose of this article is to help adjust mental models, better utilize RNA structural information, and provide suggestions for future efforts.

Remdesivir against COVID-19 and Other Viral Diseases

Jakob J. Malin et al.

Summary: Remdesivir is the first approved treatment for COVID-19, showing therapeutic and prophylactic effects in animal models of various viruses. However, it failed in a clinical trial on ebolavirus disease but showed beneficial effects for patients with COVID-19 in a placebo-controlled trial.

Theoretical and experimental study of guar gum sulfation

Aleksandr S. Kazachenko et al.

Summary: In this study, sulfation of guar gum using a complex of sulfur trioxide and 1,4-dioxane was optimized through experimental conditions. The changes in the morphology and structure of guar gum during sulfation were characterized using various analytical methods. The molecular weight of guar gum decreased from 600 to 176 kDa during the sulfation process, as confirmed by gel permeation chromatography.

Hydrogen Bonding in Natural and Unnatural Base Pairs-A Local Vibrational Mode Study

Nassim Beiranvand et al.

Summary: The study found that hydrogen bonding in Watson-Crick base pairs is not exceptionally strong, with N-H···N being the most favorable hydrogen bond type. Non-classical C-H···O bonds play an important role in stabilizing base pairs. The DNA environment influences the strength of hydrogen bonds, but trends observed in gas phase calculations remain unchanged.
