Islands of misfit buildings: Detecting uncharacteristic electricity use behavior using load shape clustering

Matias Quintana et al.

Summary: Many energy performance analysis methods assign buildings a descriptive label known as the primary space usage (PSU) based on assumptions of how spaces will be used, but this may not reflect actual usage. Analyzing electricity consumption behavior using hourly data can help identify potentially mislabeled buildings. Research shows a percentage of buildings may be mislabeled, providing insight into accurate simulation scenarios.
