Partial breast reconstruction of 30 cases with peri-mammary artery perforator flaps

Meiying Shen et al.

Summary: The study found that peri-mammary artery flaps are valuable in breast-conserving surgery, especially for patients with small or medium-sized breasts. Vascular ultrasound can be used to detect perforators before the operation, and more than one perforator can usually be found. With a suitable operation plan, no severe complications occurred, and patients were highly satisfied with the reconstruction technique, particularly AICAP and LICAP. Overall, this technique is suitable for partial breast reconstruction and does not negatively impact patient satisfaction.

Association of body mass index with clinicopathological features and survival in patients with primary invasive lobular breast cancer

Karen Van Baelen et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of body mass index (BMI) on the diagnosis and prognosis of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) was investigated. The results showed that higher BMI was associated with higher tumor grade, larger tumor size, nodal involvement, and multifocality. However, in multivariable analysis, BMI was not independently associated with prognosis, suggesting that its effect on survival may be mediated through its association with other clinicopathological variables.

Breast conservation therapy decreased heart-specific mortality in breast cancer patients compared with mastectomy

Zhi Li et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of breast conservation therapy (BCT) and mastectomy on heart-specific mortality in breast cancer patients. Through follow-up and multivariate regression analysis of breast cancer patients, it was found that BCT significantly decreased heart-specific mortality compared with mastectomy.

Breast conserving therapy for central breast cancer in the United States

Jiameng Liu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term survival outcomes of central breast cancer and found that breast-conserving therapy is safe and optional. The breast preservation rate increased from 39.9% in 2010 to 51% in 2015. In a matched case-control analysis, breast cancer-specific survival and overall survival were higher in the breast conserving therapy group compared to the non-breast conserving group. Subgroup analysis based on T staging and stage also showed higher overall survival and breast cancer-specific survival in the breast conserving therapy group.

Chemotherapy significantly improves long-term survival of small lesion node negative metaplastic breast carcinoma in T1c population rather than T1a and T1b

Qitong Chen et al.

Summary: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MpBC) is a highly aggressive disease, and the effect of chemotherapy on small lesions is unclear. This study found that chemotherapy improved the prognosis of T1c MpBC patients, but not T1a and T1b patients.

Breast-conserving in centrally located breast cancer patients confirmed safe by SEER based study

Yu-Fei Shen et al.

Summary: Based on data from the SEER database, this study assessed the safety of breast-conserving surgery in patients with centrally located breast cancer. The results showed that there was no significant difference in disease-specific survival and overall survival between breast-conserving surgery for centrally located breast cancer and breast-conserving surgery for non-centrally located breast cancer.

Is breast conservation superior to mastectomy in early stage triple negative breast cancer?

Omran Saifi et al.

Summary: In patients with early-stage triple negative breast cancer, breast conservative therapy (BCT) followed by radiation therapy (RT) is associated with better overall survival (OS) and breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS) outcomes compared to mastectomy alone. However, specific patient subgroups, such as those older than 60 with any grade or T stage, may have better survival outcomes with lumpectomy and RT.

Impact of Marital Status on Prognosis of Patients With Invasive Breast Cancer: A Population-Based Study Using SEER Database

Dechuang Jiao et al.

Summary: This study found that marital status is an independent prognostic factor for invasive breast cancer patients. Married patients have better survival rates compared to unmarried patients. Additional psychosocial and emotional support may be necessary for unmarried patients aged 35 and above in order to achieve longer survival.

Assessment of Ki67 in Breast Cancer: Updated Recommendations From the International Ki67 in Breast Cancer Working Group

Torsten O. Nielsen et al.

Summary: Ki67 immunohistochemistry (IHC) is commonly used in breast cancer as a proliferation marker, but its analytical validity has been questioned. The International Ki67 in Breast Cancer Working Group (IKWG) recommends careful preanalytical handling, adoption of a standardized visual scoring method, and participation in quality assurance and quality control programs. Clinical utility of Ki67 IHC in breast cancer care is currently limited to prognosis assessment in stage I or II breast cancer.

Summary: The study demonstrates that breast-conserving therapy (BCT) exhibits superior prognosis in patients with tumors in the central and nipple portion (TCNP) compared to mastectomy therapy, across various subgroups such as age, sex, race, histological grade, AJCC stage, and molecular subtype. The findings suggest that BCT could be a preferred treatment option for suitable TCNP patients, especially those with a strong preference for breast conservation.
