Deep learning empowered highly compressive SS-OCT via learnable spectral-spatial sub-sampling

Yuye Ling et al.

Summary: With the advancement of light source technology, the A-line imaging rate of SS-OCT has significantly increased in the past three decades. However, the bandwidths of data acquisition, transfer, and storage have become major limitations in modern SS-OCT system design. To address this, a novel design paradigm is proposed where the sub-sampling pattern for interferogram acquisition is jointly optimized with the reconstruction algorithm. This method achieves high data compression ratios without impairing image quality, making it a potential solution for the data issue in SS-OCT.

The Use of Optical Coherence Tomography for Gross Examination and Sampling of Fixed Breast Specimens: A Pilot Study

Hala Faragalla et al.

Summary: Thorough gross examination of breast cancer specimens is critical for subsequent microscopic examination. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) can be used as an adjunct tool to visualize tissue structure. OCT images of fixed breast tissue were of sufficient quality to reproduce features of breast entities previously described in fresh tissue specimens, supporting the establishment of an OCT-histopathology library.

Summary: Inadequate margins are common in patients undergoing tumor resection surgery, leading to the development of novel imaging techniques for intraoperative margin assessment. Most of these techniques are still in early developmental stages, with none clearly demonstrating superior feasibility and diagnostic accuracy compared to others.

3-D compressed sensing optical coherence tomography using predictive coding

James P. McLean et al.

Summary: The study introduces a compressed sensing algorithm and sampling strategy to reconstruct 3-D OCT images from as little as 10% of the original data, demonstrating reconstruction for clinically relevant tissue types. The proposed method reduces scan time and improves image sparsity by reconstructing the difference between adjacent b-scans and applying Gaussian filtering iteratively.
