Classification of Skin Cancer Using Novel Hyperspectral Imaging Engineering via YOLOv5

Hung-Yi Huang et al.

Summary: Many recent studies have utilized different deep learning methods for skin cancer detection, however, the noninvasive hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system that captures wavelength information needs more investigation. In this study, the ISIC library dataset was used to detect and classify skin cancer types, and the dataset was divided into training and test sets. The performance of the model trained using the You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 5 was evaluated using a confusion matrix and five parameters. Two models, HSI-NBI and RGB classification, were built and compared, and the HSI model showed better performance in learning the features of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The recall rate increased by 7.5% when using the HSI model.

Automatic Counterfeit Currency Detection Using a Novel Snapshot Hyperspectral Imaging Algorithm

Arvind Mukundan et al.

Summary: A snapshot-based hyperspectral imaging algorithm was developed using the Raspberry Pi environment to convert RGB images to HSI images. Additionally, a Windows-based Python application was created to control the Raspberry Pi camera and processor. Mean gray values (MGVs) of different regions of interest (ROIs) were compared between authentic and counterfeit Taiwanese currency notes, revealing distinguishable differences in MGV values within shorter wavelengths (400 nm - 500 nm) but similar values in longer wavelengths. The efficiency of the classification method was enhanced when ROIs contained security features. The module is characterized by its portability, low cost, lack of moving parts, and image processing-free operation.

Summary: The severity of diabetic retinopathy (DR) can be determined by analyzing the oxygen content in blood vessels through fundus images. To achieve accurate and prompt judgments, the study used image processing, hyperspectral imaging (HSI) algorithm, and principal component analysis (PCA) to separate blood vessels, construct spectral data, and differentiate between arteries and veins. The precision and sensitivity of the HSI method varied among different stages of DR, with the highest values in the normal stage and the lowest in the proliferative DR (PDR) stage.
