Efficient inorganic perovskite solar cells made by drop-coating in ambient air

Hanrui Xiao et al.

Summary: An additive-assisted airflow drying (AAD) method is reported to fabricate mixed-halide inorganic perovskite films in ambient air, achieving pinhole-free films with low defect density. CsPbI2.25Br0.75 PSCs show an improved efficiency of 18.49%, the highest for wide-bandgap (>1.8 eV) inorganic PSCs. PSCs made under moderate relative humidity (40-50%) achieve an efficiency of 17.08%. Additionally, CsPbI2Br and CsPbIBr2 PSCs achieve PCEs of 17.39% and 11.54% respectively, among the best for CsPbI2Br and CsPbIBr2 PSCs. This work provides a convenient and efficient method for fabricating efficient inorganic PSCs in ambient air.

Cs1-xDMAxPbI3 versus CsPbI3 for Perovskite Solar Cells

Mengqi Liu et al.

Summary: Inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells show promise for tandem solar cells due to their excellent thermal stability and appropriate bandgap. The common method of using organic additives for intermediate phase engineering has been questioned regarding the full conversion to pure CsPbI3 phase. By studying the effect of annealing temperature, it is demonstrated that significant organic residues remain in the films when using the standard recipes of DMA(+)-assisted synthesis. However, increasing the annealing temperature to 340 degrees C eliminates the organic residues and leads to improved properties.

A low-cost hole transport layer enables CsPbI2Br single-junction and tandem perovskite solar cells with record efficiencies of 17.8 % and 21.4 %

Yuanjia Ding et al.

Summary: Among inorganic perovskites, CsPbI2Br shows great potential for single-junction perovskite solar cells (PSCs) and perovskite/organic tandem solar cells (TSCs) due to its intrinsic thermal stability, suitable bandgap, and superior phase-stability. This study demonstrates that using PTQ10 as a hole transport layer (HTL) for PSCs and an inter-connecting layer (ICL) for TSCs can significantly improve the power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of CsPbI2Br-based devices. The PTQ10 HTL exhibits better energy level matching with CsPbI2Br and can passivate the perovskite surface, leading to enhanced performance in both PSCs and TSCs.

Summary: CsPbI2Br perovskite solar cells show potential as a top cell for tandem applications, but the open-circuit voltage (V-OC) reported so far is usually below the detailed balance (DB) limit for single-junction PSCs. By adding lead acetate to the CsPbI2Br precursor, losses due to nonradiative recombination can be significantly reduced, leading to improved power conversion efficiency and higher V-OC values.
