Multiple biological activities and biosynthesis mechanisms of specific conjugated linoleic acid isomers and analytical methods for prospective application

Suhong Li et al.

Summary: This article provides a review of the biological activities, biosynthesis mechanisms, and analytical methods of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) isomers. The review focuses on the anti-obesity, cardiovascular protection, diabetes management, and anti-cancer activities of CLA isomers in both in vitro and in vivo studies. The production of specific CLA isomers is highlighted due to their biological activity. The article systematically introduces biosynthesis methods such as dietary modification in ruminants and fermentation by microorganisms & enzymes. Comparisons of various analysis methods, including UV spectrometry, GC, HPLC, MS, and CE, are discussed. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the current status and future trends in CLA isomer research.

Stearic acid prevent alcohol-induced liver damage by regulating the gut microbiota

Wen Nie et al.

Summary: The pathological characteristics of alcohol-associated liver damage (ALD) mainly include liver lipid accumulation, which subsequently leads to alcohol-associated steatohepatitis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. Dietary factors such as alcohol and fat may contribute to the development of ALD. This study demonstrated that dietary supplementation with saturated fatty acids could prevent or mitigate ALD by regulating the gut microbiota (GM) and improving the intestinal barrier, while provided a more affordable dietary intervention strategy for the prevention of ALD.

Bile acid metabolism and signaling, the microbiota, and metabolic disease

Jingwei Cai et al.

Summary: The diversity, composition, and function of the bacterial community in the human gastrointestinal tract play a crucial role in host health. Bile acids, as potent metabolic and immune signaling molecules, have significant impacts on host metabolic and immunological functions. Manipulating the microbiota-bile acid-bile acid receptor axis has emerged as a novel therapeutic approach for human health.

Fecal Microbiota Transplant from Human to Mice Gives Insights into the Role of the Gut Microbiota in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Sebastian D. Burz et al.

Summary: Research indicates that the composition of gut microbiota plays a key role in the development of NAFLD, with mice transplanted with microbiota from a patient with fatty liver showing a higher susceptibility to obesity and steatosis compared to those transplanted with healthy microbiota. Metabolomic analyses revealed significant metabolic differences between mice with different microbiota compositions.
