Robustness assessment of public bus transit system with a response-integrated approach for a resilient public transport system in Hong Kong

Zizhen Xu et al.

Summary: This research evaluates node percolation in the transportation domain, specifically in the public bus transit system, and assesses the impact of post-disruption response measures on network robustness. The study finds that the dependent network model of public bus transit becomes increasingly vulnerable to infrastructure failures, but response measures are effective up to a certain level of disruption. Furthermore, the research provides prescriptive insights into the design of transportation contingency plans.

Resilient Urban Public Transportation Infrastructure: A Comparison of Five Flow-Weighted Metro Networks in Terms of the Resilience Cycle Framework

Zizhen Xu et al.

Summary: This study conducted an empirical research on the resilience of five metro systems globally, with the Singapore metro showing the best resilience possibly due to its moderate heterogeneous topology and flow pattern. Commuters' relocation behavior between neighboring stations was found to be significant in the recovery stage for resilience design.

Network-based Assessment of Metro Infrastructure with a Spatial-temporal Resilience Cycle Framework

Zizhen Xu et al.

Summary: This paper applies a resilience cycle framework to analyze the resilience of urban public transportation systems. The study found that the average travel distance of flows has a negative impact on the system's ability to withstand random failures. Additionally, densely-built metro stations provide significant benefits in the recovery stage.

A method to improve the resilience of multimodal transport network: Location selection strategy of emergency rescue facilities

Jingni Guo et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the location selection strategy of emergency rescue facilities in the multimodal transport network to enhance network resilience. A cooperative coverage model and a multi-objective non-linear programming model are proposed and validated through calculations and analysis. The innovation lies in proposing an emergency rescue facility location method from a perspective of global optimization.

Criticality analysis of a country's transport network via an agent-based supply chain model

Celian Colon et al.

Summary: This study presents an agent-based model that analyzes the behavior of firms facing transport and supply disruptions caused by natural disasters, and explores pathways to enhance infrastructure and supply chain resilience. The research findings show that different supply chains have varying levels of dependence on critical transport infrastructure assets, emphasizing the importance of rapid repairs for reducing economic losses from transport disruptions. By combining economic and transport modeling, a wider range of intervention measures can be considered to make supply chains more resilient to disruptions.

Measuring urban road network vulnerability to extreme events: An application for urban floods

Andre Borgato Morelli et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a convenient metric for assessing the vulnerability of road networks in small to medium-sized cities, focusing on how obstructions from disasters can increase path lengths. A case study in Sa?o Carlos, Brazil, demonstrates that walking and cycling are more robust modes of transportation compared to motorized individual transport, highlighting the importance of compact city planning to make cities more resilient to floods.
