All-optical controlled-NOT logic gate achieving directional asymmetric transmission based on metasurface doublet

Yijia Huang et al.

Summary: Optical logic gates are essential for next-generation optical computing technology, but the contradiction between compactness and robustness has posed challenges in this field. In this study, we propose a simple design principle based on metasurface doublets to achieve multiple-input-output states according to incident circular polarization and direction, enabling controlled-NOT logic gates in the infrared region. A spin-dependent Janus metasurface is designed and verified experimentally, demonstrating the capture of four distinct images corresponding to different input states. The proposed metasurface doublet holds potential applications in chiral imaging, chiroptical spectroscopy, and optical computing.

All-Dielectric Metasurface-Enabled Multiple Vortex Emissions

Hui Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the simultaneous generation of coherent laser arrays with different topological charges by combining metalenses with semiconductor microlasers. The microlaser emission is collimated into vortex microlaser beams with different topological charges through a time-reversal process. By introducing off-axis terms, the concept is extended to a 2 x 2 metalens array, producing eight topological charges simultaneously.

Vortex laser arrays with topological charge control and self-healing of defects

Marco Piccardo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a solid-state laser that generates 10 x 10 vortex laser arrays with actively tunable topologies. By structuring light at the source, complex transformations such as arbitrarily partitioning orbital angular momentum and healing topological charge defects are achieved. This research is of great importance for the development of robust and versatile resonators for applications in topological optics.

Multidimensional phase singularities in nanophotonics

Jincheng Ni et al.

Summary: The rapid progress in miniaturizing vortex devices is driven by their integration with optical sensing, micromanipulation, and optical communications. A new branch of singular optics has recently emerged seeking phase singularities in multiple dimensions to realize vortex beams with compact nanodevices. Research in this area focuses on topological phase singularities in real space, momentum space, and the spatiotemporal domain for generating vortex beams.
