Exceptional Non-Abelian Topology in Multiband Non-Hermitian Systems

Cui-Xian Guo et al.

Summary: Extensive studies have revealed a universal non-Abelian conservation rule governing the collective behaviors of multiple exceptional points or lines in generic multiband non-Hermitian systems. Surprisingly, two EPs with opposite charges may not annihilate, depending on their approach. Additionally, the conservation rule imposes constraints on the permissible exceptional-line configurations, allowing for structures such as staggered rings composed of noncommutative exceptional lines. These findings provide insights into the exceptional non-Abelian topology and offer possibilities for manipulating and utilizing exceptional degeneracies in nonconservative systems.

Observation of Non-Abelian Thouless Pump

Oubo You et al.

Summary: Thouless pumps provide a reliable way to realize quantized transport of waves and particles, but the study of non-Abelian Thouless pumps is scarce. Researchers have observed a non-Abelian Thouless pump in a coupled acoustic waveguide array, paving the way for exploring and utilizing non-Abelian dynamical effects in classical wave systems and offering different approaches for quantum walking, quantum optics, and quantum computation.

Direct geometric probe of singularities in band structure

Charles D. Brown et al.

Summary: This study directly measured the non-Abelian transformation produced by transport through singularities in ultracold atoms in an optical lattice. By measuring the acceleration process along a quasi-momentum trajectory, the topological winding numbers of the singularities were identified, providing a new method for studying non-Dirac singularities in ultracold-atom quantum simulators.

Multigap topology and non-Abelian braiding of phonons from first principles

Bo Peng et al.

Summary: Non-Abelian states of matter can encode noise-resistant information and provide a robust platform for topological quantum computation. In this study, we demonstrate that phonons can carry non-Abelian frame charges and their braiding can be manipulated by external stimuli. We propose a framework based on topological invariants to understand the topological configurations of phonons and analyze their braiding. Using Al2O3 as an example, we show that electrostatic doping can induce phonon band inversions and non-Abelian braiding.

Non-Abelian Charged Nodal Links in a Dielectric Photonic Crystal

Haedong Park et al.

Summary: The article introduces a special form of nodal link in the momentum space of three-dimensional topological crystals and proposes a dielectric photonic crystal structure to realize nodal links. The evolution of eigenstate correlations along closed loops enclosing the nodal lines is examined to analyze the non-Abelian topological charges of the nodal links. This work's design scheme and theoretical approach aim to enable experimental observation of photonic non-Abelian charges and control degeneracy in complex photonic structures using purely dielectric materials.
