Sustained activation of NLRP3 inflammasome contributes to delayed wound healing in aged mice

Haiyun Li et al.

Summary: Cutaneous wounds in the elderly heal poorly due to persistent inflammation and insufficient ECM deposition. The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a critical role in age-related inflammatory diseases and impaired wound healing. In this study, the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome was found to be increased in aged mice, causing a delay in wound healing. The application of NLRP3 inhibitor (MCC950) improved wound healing in aged mice by reducing inflammation and cell death.

BPS-induced ovarian dysfunction: Protective actions of melatonin via modulation of SIRT-1/Nrf2/NF?B and IR/PI3K/pAkt/GLUT-4 expressions in adult golden hamster

Sriparna Pal et al.

Summary: The increasing number of plastic-manufacturing industries is causing environmental pollution and negatively impacting human and reproductive health. Bisphenol S (BPS), previously believed to be a safer alternative to bisphenol A (BPA), has been found to have toxic effects on the nervous system, liver, kidneys, and reproduction. The study demonstrates that melatonin can protect ovarian function from the detrimental effects of BPS, highlighting its potential as a preemptive treatment for environmental toxins and compromised female reproductive health.

Melatonin improves skin barrier damage caused by sleep restriction through gut microbiota

Weitian Li et al.

Summary: It is necessary to explore the relationship between sleep deprivation and skin damage and find effective treatments. Our research showed that lack of sleep impairs skin barrier function, disrupts biological clock oscillations, and affects the circadian rhythm of Bacteroides. Oral melatonin supplementation improves skin damage by restoring the circadian rhythm of Bacteroides and its propionic acid metabolite. Propionic acid produced by gut microbiota plays a role in improving skin barrier function.

Health Benefits of Quercetin in Age-Related Diseases

Deepika et al.

Summary: Polyphenols, including the widely occurring quercetin, are a group of plant compounds with antioxidant properties that protect against aging and various age-related diseases. Quercetin, present in abundant quantities in nature and particularly in onions, possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-diabetic properties. It can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and has shown potential as a curative agent in neurodegeneration, diabetes, cancer, and inflammation. Further studies and formulations of quercetin could explore its potential in treating other age-associated diseases.
