Use of Clindamycin for Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection Decreases Amputation Rate

David M. Heath et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of clindamycin on mortality and amputation rates in patients with necrotizing fasciitis. The findings showed that the use of clindamycin significantly decreased the risk of amputation, but had no significant effect on mortality rates.

Duration of Antibiotic Therapy in Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections: Shorter is Safe

W. T. Hillman Terzian et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of short-duration antibiotic therapy in treating NSTI. The findings suggest that discontinuing antibiotic agents within 48 hours after adequate source control is as safe and effective as a longer course.

Risk Factors and Predictors of Mortality in Streptococcal Necrotizing Soft-tissue Infections: A Multicenter Prospective Study

Trond Bruun et al.

Summary: This study identified several risk factors associated with streptococcal NSTI, including blunt trauma. Septic shock was more common in NSTI caused by GAS compared to cases caused by SD, and factors associated with mortality in GAS NSTI included age, septic shock, and lack of IVIG administration.

Utility of the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis Score: Comorbid Conditions Do Matter

Reynold Henry et al.

Summary: LRINEC is a useful tool for ruling out the diagnosis of NSTI, with high sensitivity and negative predictive value, but lower positive predictive value in patients with comorbid conditions. Patients with IVDU have a poorer performance in terms of NPV, while those with DM and ESLD show higher NPV.

Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis Score and Patient Outcomes

Jun Fujinaga et al.

Summary: The study found no association between the LRINEC score and outcomes (mortality and amputation) in patients with NSTI. Further research is needed to evaluate the utility of the LRINEC score and factors associated with poor prognosis in NSTI patients.
