Wideband multiwavelength Brillouin fiber laser with switchable channel spacing

Yang Shi et al.

Summary: A multiwavelength Brillouin fiber laser (MBFL) with switchable channel spacing is achieved using a 1.55-μm single-mode AlGaInAs/InP hybrid square-rectangular laser as a seeding source. The MBFL is generated through a highly nonlinear fiber loop with a feedback path, followed by a cavity-enhanced four-wave mixing in another highly nonlinear fiber loop assisted by a tunable optical bandpass filter. The stability of the MBFL's total output power and channel spacing is verified by successfully obtaining over 60 lasing lines with an optical signal-to-noise ratio above 10 dB in all switchable spacings.

Tunable 60 GHz Multiwavelength Brillouin Erbium Fiber Laser

Mohammed K. Awsaj et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental study of a tunable 60 GHz multiwavelength Brillouin erbium fiber laser. Two unidirectional ring laser cavities and two pre-amplification laser cavities are utilized. In the first three cavities, a Brillouin gain medium with a dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) spool is used, and a single-mode fiber (SMF) spool is used as a Brillouin gain medium in the fourth cavity. Three erbium amplifiers are employed to provide sufficient gain and suppress cavity losses. Up to 450 mW (150 mW for each) of a 1480 nm pump power is used for these amplifiers. In our proposed configuration, four sextuple Brillouin Stokes signals with a high power of 10 dBm and an optical signal-to-noise ratio of more than 55 dB are achieved. The obtained Brillouin Stokes signals can be tuned over 30 nm (1560-1590 nm) and can be easily used in dense wavelength division multiplexing in optical communication systems.

Frequency Comb Generation Based on Brillouin Random Lasing Oscillation and Four-Wave Mixing Assisted with Nonlinear Optical Loop Mirror

Yuxi Pang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a frequency comb generator based on dual-cavity Brillouin random fiber lasing oscillation in the 1.5 μm telecon spectral window is established and experimentally demonstrated. The generator utilizes stimulated Brillouin scattering in highly nonlinear fiber and Rayleigh scattering in single-mode fiber to provide Brillouin gain and randomly distributed feedback for random mode resonance. By using an Er-doped fiber amplifier and efficient four-wave mixing, multiple higher-order Stokes and anti-Stokes light are generated. The generator also optimizes the power deviation between Stokes and anti-Stokes lines using nonlinear optical loop mirrors, achieving stable lines with high optical signal-to-noise ratio.

Stabilized Narrow-Linewidth Brillouin Random Fiber Laser With a Double-Coupler Fiber Ring Resonator

Yuxi Pang et al.

Summary: This study proposes and experimentally investigates a stabilized coherent narrow-linewidth Brillouin random fiber laser with low lasing noise. The laser utilizes stimulated Brillouin scattering and Rayleigh scattering in optical fibers to provide the gain and random distributed feedback. The stabilized lasing output with suppressed noise is achieved using a simple structure of a double-coupler fiber ring resonator. The proposed laser source shows significant improvement in multi-mode resonances, frequency jitters, and noise level compared to existing free-running Brillouin random fiber lasers.

Tunable Brillouin-Raman multi-wavelength fiber laser with a linear cavity configuration

Zezhong Zhou et al.

Summary: The research investigates the influence of Brillouin pump and Raman pump power on the Brillouin Stokes lines, showing that 63 orders of Stokes lines can be obtained at a specific wavelength with an interval of about 0.08 nm. There are two opposite relations between the number of generated Stokes lines and the Brillouin pump power within the whole tunable range.

Tunable and narrow linewidth multi-wavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber laser using dual-wavelength pumping

Zhu Kaiyan et al.

Summary: We present a multi-wavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber laser (BEFL) with narrow linewidth and tunable wavelength interval. The BEFL utilizes stimulated Brillouin scattering and four-wave mixing in a fiber cavity to generate multi-wavelength output. The tunable interval is controlled by manipulating the wavelength interval of the pumping lasers. The BEFL exhibits excellent capability of linewidth compression and further amplification of the laser signal is achieved by using erbium-doped fiber.

Aritra Paul et al.

Summary: An all-stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) fiber-based setup is described for generating, amplifying, and isolating frequency components from an optical frequency comb (OFC). The cascaded SBS-OFC is achieved using pump and Stokes power recycling techniques, resulting in multiple coherent comb lines within a certain bandwidth.

Numerical simulation of noise in pulsed Brillouin scattering

Oscar A. Nieves et al.

Summary: This numerical method for modeling noise in stimulated Brillouin scattering is applicable to dynamic cases and considers both thermal noise and laser phase noise effects. The study finds that thermal noise plays an important role in the statistical properties of the fields and that laser phase noise impacts the SBS interaction when the laser coherence time is close to the time scale of the optical pulses.
