Mosquito species associated with horses in Madagascar: a review of their vector status with regard to the epidemiology of West Nile fever

M. L. Tantely et al.

Summary: This study in Madagascar found that Culex antennatus and Cx. quinquefasciatus are the most abundant mosquito species in horse stables, exhibiting a generalist feeding behavior with multiple vertebrate hosts; significant differences in mosquito abundance were observed among different stables; blood meal analysis showed mosquitoes fed on a variety of hosts, potentially acting as bridge vectors in the WNV transmission cycle.

Pattern of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus Associated with Human Exposure to Dengue Virus in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Kennedy Makola Mbanzulu et al.

Summary: This study assessed the relationship between human exposure to the dengue virus and the distribution pattern of Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus in Kinshasa. The findings suggest that dengue occurrence in Kinshasa overlaps somewhat the geographical and ecological distributions of these mosquito species. The uneven distribution of the mosquitoes may be due to environmental factors. Young, male, and participants in the Mont Amba district were found to be most exposed to dengue.
