Matrix metalloproteinase 11 (MMP11) in macrophages promotes the migration of HER2-positive breast cancer cells and monocyte recruitment through CCL2-CCR2 signaling

Shin Ung Kang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that MMP11 expression in mononuclear inflammatory cells, predominantly macrophages, is an independent negative prognostic factor in breast cancer. Furthermore, MMP11-overexpressing macrophages promote migration of HER2-positive breast cancer cells and monocyte recruitment through CCL2-CCR2 signaling, suggesting a pro-tumoral role of MMP11 in macrophages in HER2-positive breast cancer through interaction with cancer cells and other cells in the tumor microenvironment.

Pretreatment lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratios predict AIDS-related diffuse large B-cell lymphoma overall survival

Jing Zeng et al.

Summary: Both LMR (lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio) and PLR (platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio) have been found to be prognostic indicators in patients with AR-DLBCL (AIDS-related diffuse large B-cell lymphoma). Lower LMR is independently associated with poorer overall survival in these patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Prognostic Value of Pretreatment Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio and Development of a Nomogram in Breast Cancer Patients

Ying Yin et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic significance of pretreatment hematologic parameters in predicting disease-free survival of breast cancer patients. The findings showed that higher lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio was associated with longer median disease-free survival in breast cancer patients, and a nomogram incorporating LMR, TNM stage, and molecular subtype could accurately predict the prolonged 5-year disease-free survival.

Association of Lymphocyte-to-Monocyte Ratio With Survival in Advanced Gastric Cancer Patients Treated With Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: Inflammatory markers such as LMR, PLR, SII may be correlated with clinical outcomes in gastric cancer patients receiving ICI therapy, with LMR showing strong association with survival. Patients with higher LMR levels at baseline and week 6 had superior progress-free and overall survival compared to those with lower levels, suggesting LMR as a potential biomarker for identifying patients who are likely to benefit from ICI treatment.
