A new species of planthopper in the genus Melanoliarus (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoroidea: Cixiidae) from coconut palms (Cocos nucifera) in Trinidad

Wayne Myrie et al.

Summary: During a survey in Trinidad and Grenada, three species of planthopper in the genus Melanoliarus were collected, including a new species. Molecular data analysis confirmed their placement in the genus Melanoliarus. The study provides valuable insights into potential vectors of palm lethal decline phytoplasmas.

A new species of Oecleus (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoroidea: Cixiidae) from the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and a reassessment of the generic status of Nymphomyndus

Edwin A. Barrantes Barrantes et al.

Summary: This article describes a new species of cixiid planthopper, the first of its kind reported from Costa Rica. By comparing sequence data, the study suggests that the genera Oecleus, Haplaxius, and Myxia are monophyletic, while Nymphocixia and Nymphomyndus may be closely related. Based on the limited morphological and molecular differences, the study proposes Nymphomyndus as a junior synonym of Nymphocixia.

A new species of planthopper in the genus Haplaxius (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoroidea: Cixiidae) from coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) in Costa Rica

Edwin A. Barrantes Barrantes et al.

Summary: Haplaxius is a large genus of cixiid planthoppers found widely in the New World, with particular economic importance due to the role of H. crudus in transmitting palm lethal decline phytoplasmas. A new species of Haplaxius, named Haplaxius pocococo sp. n., was discovered during survey work on palms in north-central Costa Rica and confirmed to belong to the genus through genetic sequencing and morphological analysis.
